I'm trying to replace my bushings in my swivel bracket assembley and having a hard time. If anyone knows how your advice would be greatly appreciated. Do i put them in i mean the actual bushing is bigger than the hole. Don't they slide right in?:brickwall:

I was just looking in the book Nick it really doesnt show a whole lot. But we should come up with something saturday . Im really wondering if that guy up in bark river sent the wrong bushings . So if you have a chance tomorrow call him . Then call me and let me know what he says

the numbers match from what boaters value gave me. but whos to say those werent the wrong ones from the get go.:pissed:

Thats true . Remember when I went an got that gasket for the back of the motor ? That guy kept looking up something else till finally I looked at the computer and said thats what I need right there . But I was just thinking this . Tom could prolly look at that and machine something to slide down in there .

They are .0015 bigger than the hole that they go in they need to be pressed into place. you can put them in place with a c-clamp with a piece of flat metal between them and the clamp the hole will need to be reamed to size for the pin after they are in place. if you do not have access to a reamer you can split the end of a small rod with a hack saw or a cut off wheel and wrap it with a strip emery cloth. wrap it till it fits into the hole tight whille turning with a drill motor. it does not take long to fit it to size.
Use 160 or 180 grit this will cut it ok with out leaving a bad hatch pattern. Thats the best I can help from here. where are you located. Any of you that are down here I have a machine shop and would be glad to help any of you with projects for your boats. I build vacum pumps, blowers, and drive systems for chemical plants and refineries so boring but it pays the bills . the boat stuff is fun thats why I played with the drag boats for so many years. if I can help let me know

Hi , I havent went over to look at the bushings yet Nick just got them this afternoon and him and I were out fishing and went home instead of going to look at the boat . Thats gunna be my saturday project lol. Ill keep you posted tho on what we come up with ...

Will I just went to the garage and looked at a bracket. You could use a piece of threaded rod with a nut and heavy washer on each side and pull them into place when you tighten the nuts. Just make sure that they are sq. with the hole when they start.. Good Luck

Or do you think I should remove the bracket from Nicks boat and press it with my arbor press ? He was trying to explain to me on the phone earlier how they looked but ill get a better idea this weekend when I go over there . really appreciate you taking the time to help out . Now I have a better idea of all this before I go over there ...

If you have a arbor press that would be best. I was looking at it from the standpoint of doing it in a garage with minimal tools. It does not look like a bad job to do at all, if you can get it all apart with out any trouble. sometime these old motors can be real pain in the a$$ to disasemble..

I went over to Nicks after work this evening and I looked at those bushings. Yeah that bracket is gunna have to be reamed out to put the bushings in. I was showing my dad the bushing he said there isnt that much play to put it back together the way it is . But its Nicks call there .

May be your best choice if you do not have what it takes to machine the bushings. I know what I would charge in our shop $$$$$$ If I can help any of you I will do what ever I can to help.. If any of the marine places here send me anything $$$$ just trying to get some of my money back LOL
