what prop/

If your 200 is not tired out you should be fine with the 24 Trophy. It is the right choice for that combo. That motor likes a small hub 4 blade. Without the jackplate you will hopefully see 5500 RPM and then closer to 6000 with the JP.
 
I wouldnt have believed it...but the GPS doesn't lie...the speedo said 76...lol....Im really happy with what i have accomplished, however...Im assuming with some set back a better jack plate(old land and sea now) and calmer water...could break the 70 mph?...:sssh: Had a little chine walk...guess ill have to push through that :D
 
John, in response to your post on the plugs in the prop...good info by the way...so far with solid plugs seems ok out of the hole....would it be wise to try a little opening?

I run the medium plugs in mine and that works the best for me, with a boat load of people on board it allows the prop to break lose and spin it up and get you out fast.
 
I have a 1979 Enchanter with a 200 Merc. I'm running a Yamaha drag prop
24 pitch. I get 69.8 mph on gps. Motor is bolted to the boat. 5800 rpm's just me and 1/2 tank gas about 12 gallons. Not much in the bow lift but handles good at top speed. I have a 25 pitch Mirage which lift's the nose way up but I only get 68 mph on that with bad chine walk. Gonna stay with the drag prop for now cause I think I'm at the best top speed this combo can offer. It will throw you in the back seat on the hole shot as well.
 
can anyone tell from this pic if I have enough bow lift? i was at 69mph @ 6100 rpm...dont think i was WOT...close though... and how do i determine where to have my trim at? do i jack first, trim second.?..not sure im doing this all right?

This is where trial and error comes in. You need to watch the tach and the gps. If you are trimming up and the speed continues to increase you are heading in the right direction. When the rpm's start increasing without any gain in speed, you need to trim back down a click at a time until the prop "hooks" back up. As far as jacking the engine, you will need to repeat the above process until you find the magical spot. Sounds complicated, but it's not. I am not sure on your hull, but on any Pulsare 20 or 21' that I have played with, you can't go too high with just 1 jack plate. Yours may be a little different. You also need to watch water pressure as you start raising the motor. I ran my with 10" cmc manual plates, raised as high as they would go with the motor and a set of 2" spacers bolted to the jack plate as high as possible and a stock lower unit, no low water pick up or scoops and never had any issues of any kind. Could haul a load, pull skiers and tube with no problem. If you are not like some of us on here and trying to squeeze every last ounce of speed out of it, that is probably the best set up to use. Just set it and forget it. No tweaking every time you go out. I like the set up I have now with 2 jack plates, 1 man and 1 hyd for the speed, but other than WOT, it serves no purpose.
 
Ok...so that is the sequence...trim then jack?...or trim jack then trim again?

I have 1 jack plate now, i would entertain the idea of a second one being manual, unfortunately I have a land and sea plate...works some times :yell:...so my thought was to buy a hydro with 10inch set back....unless you know of where I can get rebuild parts for my land and sea hydro plate? then i would buy a manual plate...hmmm.... maybe i need to re think the set up...
 
Hey guys I want to go to a 4 blade as well. I have a starflite with a 225 mercury carb engine and 5" hydro. Jack plate.

I'm currently running a 21 p 3 blade laser II

Will a trophy 23 p be a good upgrade????
 
Ok, I just picked up a used 23 pitch 4 blade trophy. For 150 bucks. Should I get it rebalanced to make sure it's fine?

cant say whether thats the best prop for you, but if you only paid 150, i would have it serviced...it shouldnt be more than a 100.00 and you will have piece of mind and still be in it cheap! :)
 
Ok well I take it that the 4 blade 24 pitch works wonders, I have a Staflite as well with a 225 Merc/carb, now since this 24 works great for 200 would a 25 be better for the 225? oh and I have a jack plate already as well, what would be the best setup?????:rof:
