2400 BRX - 300XS, what prop ya running

Working in my buddies boat per above what props are working best for this set up. It currently has a 25 tempest plus on it and he is complaining about it. I personally havent driven this boat yet but am wondering what you guys found works best. Also what is max HPM on this mota?

How about RPM in lieu of either HPM or RMP?

Other than that no input...you could PM Philster (member with new 2400BRX with 300)

WOW - I knew I was crispy after work but good god! He sounded like it was to much prop from what I gathered. I am not sure though he couldnt give me RPMs he was running or anything. I will hopefully get it out in next week or 2 and get more info. Just thought someone might have this same set up and was wondering what they might have on.

I have the 3B 25P Tempest on a 12" setback and the centerline of the prop is 3.5" (or just a touch more) below the bottom of the boat.

The resident guru on all such setups is Wildman, who recommends a Trophy (4-blade prop, AKA 4B). Wildman will go as far back as 15" of setback from what I recall. More setback means the prop is to be set a little higher up, so I have to be just a wee bit lower than his setup.

I believe you are going to hear mixed reviews. I know Randy/Wildman will swear the Trophy is the prop to have, and he is right if you want better 'grip' from the 4 blades, but I have seen that the Tempest is faster (and this jives with every prop test I have ever seen comparing 3Bs to 4Bs).

I don't have any handling or hole shot issues, so I am sticking with my 25p Tempest. If you want to try a Trophy, I believe it'd have to be a 24P Trophy. 4B props just have better everything from low- to mid- range, and tend to bite better at higher speeds, too. They lose to a 3B on top speed runs.

There is a thread on here where Checkmate ran the Trophy and Tempest in prep for a boat mag test and the Tempest won (top speed runs). Randy swore the Trophy would be faster, but it wasn't. Again, I suspect Wildman will tell you that if you let him set the boat up and buy it from him, you'll get the fastest barge possible and she'll probably wear a Trophy.

I've copied his setup pretty well but have opted for the Tempest for now. We've seen 69 MPH w/out trying to walk/trim it much higher on a couple of windy days. There is no doubt she will be 70+ without all the gusts and fully broken in.

There is a Youtube video of Randy running a BRX to 69.5 or so on GPS. There are others where he runs the closed bow 24 to mid 70's or higher. Since the bow is lighter on the closed deck, it just 'flies' better.

Thanks for the info ! I will go run his boat when I get a chance. I also have a 24 Trophy plus here so we can give that a try for comparison.

I run a 34 x 15 labbed Mercury 3 blade cleaver when I want to run top end and a 15 x 14 when carrying my wife and 7 kids (all under 10 years old)

use

what is he using it for?? wakeboarding and skiing?? High 5 is the only way to go... seriously.... 23 pitch high 5.. you can load that boat up then with 6 people and still pull people out of the water.

Umm... Wildman is being sarcastic to make a point.

Also, I have a feeling he was neglected as a child and now thinks children are some sort of burden. ;)

It's rich with irony, because Wildman is pretty much a big kid anyway.

I've taken his advice, and my setup is pretty much according to his specs. I just like my 3-blade prop and others like their 4-blade props.

Actually, I was just trying to be funny. I run a 25 Tropy on the 24 longdeck and a 23-24 Trophy on the BRX depending on the load.

I will be testing soon as well. I just put the down payment on 2400 BRX being built right now,It should be finished Friday.

Sorry Wildman, I didn't want to wait until June/July. Being in Ohio our season is pretty short.

This boat is coming with the Standard CMC which I believe is 10" but after I have a baseline I can add more or go to Wildmans setback ( if he sells them)

My initial thought is a trophy being that I will be teaching my kids how to ski and maybe get a labbed tempest for trying to get a mph number

I am waiting for someone to try a Rev4 on that combo. They are a 4 blade version of the Tempest and is my best prop on my 250 Etec. Sort of a little known secret weapon on many hulls with big power. All the lift of a Tempest and handling of a 4 blade.

On your 23-24 trophy which plugs you running and is the cav ring installed or not? The 24 I have has med plugs and ring on.

I like the rev4 on both my pulsares for every day use, they have a ton of bite. I have been 75.9 with my 27p hydromotive on the 2400.

As for 3 blade props always winning the top end race, not always true. On my 2000cd, I have tried 27 and 29 Tempest, 27 and 28 Trophy and the best speed is with the 28 Trophy, best hole shot, 27 Trophy, easiest to drive, Trophy, best mid range, Trophy, and best overall performance with a load, you guessed it, the Trophy. With the 28 Trophy, 79mph on the rev limiter. With the 27 Tempest, a few less rpm's and 76.5mph. I thought with the engine riding the limiter with the 28 Trophy that the 29 Tempest would be a good move, I thought wrong! Hole shot was lazy, rpm's were close, speed was around .5mph slower and a beotch to drive. With that being said, not all boats like the same thing. But I think Randy has tried every combo available. If he says a plastic prop from a trolling motor works best, it's because he has already proven it. Just 2cents.
