Bringing it back from the dead

A 1985 Checkmate Eluder found its way to me about 5 months ago. I'd been interested in having a boat for some time since my wife and I both love to fish and I used to enjoy water skiing too. Growing up a friend's family had a boat and I remembered all the fun that could be had out behind one. Started asking around and my neighbor had a 17' sunbird I/O for sale for 200.00. If I knew then what I know now him giving it to me would have been too much! At the time I knew little to nothing about boats but I do consider myself handy with a wrench. The transom and floor turned out to be mush and the engine was seized. I came to find out later the boat had been under flood water. After way too much time and labor I was able to part it out so then I was back to looking. A friend's friend had the Eluder setting on blocks under some pine trees with some actually growing in it  I didn't pay for it just agreed to help my buddy with any electrical work he needed at his carpentry/ boat restoration shop. I knew nothing at all about Checkmates or outboard engines. To say the least I've learned a few things!
So far I have a new stringers, a floor, a shine back on that nice metal flake, and an engine that is nearly right.:irked: It has an 89 Mercury XR4 Black Max 150, short of cracking the block I've gone through the whole thing, I believe I have a bad switchbox since I've replaced the stator and rectifier that were burnt to a crisp, got no spark from the starboard coils. I know now why outboard mechanics are well paid! Real excited about getting her back in the water :D

And.... :needpics:

Also helpful to put your location in. There may be a few 'neighbors' that can give ya a hand.

Hello James. Verify that magnets are still properly attached to underside of flywheel. Then swap positions of switchboxes and their respective wiring and see if portside looses spark. If it does, you can suspect faulty starboard switchbox.

Hi Big Dave. Down and out. There's a story in there somewhere. Happy you didn't forget me.
