Canvas waterproofing products

What are some of the preferred waterproofing products for the canvas cover? Last year I used some stuff that got added to water and applied with a sponge. I had it for my convertible car top. It worked pretty good for about a month, then I started getting water inside after a rain or two. A guy at the canvas repair shop was recommending some stuff in a spray bottle (can't remember the name of the product) but I was hesitant to buy it because it was around $35.00 which seemed a little steep at the time. I knew I already had the other stuff at home for my car and decided to try it out first. I need to do the canvas again so I thought this would be the place for good feedback.

It was probably 303 high tech fabric guard.

I have to do somthing with my cockpit cover this year too.. I've thought about using that or scotch guard.

Yeh, I think that's the stuff. Seems pretty pricey but I guess if it works and holds up well it's worth it. I'm hoping someone will chime in that has used the stuff. I was wondering how often it had to be reapplied?

what about scotch gaurd. that is what i used to put on my tent as a young kid. it came in a big can for a few bucks. it was a 6 person tent and i would use one can a year. i think that tent is still in the attic in my dads shop. last time we looked at it , it was still in good condition.

I've heard rave reviews on the 303 stuff, tried it on my admittedly incredibly old and beat up snap-on covers, looks like it works real well, the fabric still beads water pretty good two years later, unfortunately my covers are so old they sag and fill with water and then leak through the seams or where the water pools, but i bet if they were a bit better that stuff would be doing a hell of a job.

Thanks for all the responces. I think I'll check around to see where the 303 stuff can be purchased and try to get a decent deal on it. I used to have my boat in my garage for many years and the canvas was never an issue. But, things have changed and now I'm parking it outside. Now it's getting all of natures elements. I'm hoping the 303 will enable me to only have to treat it once a season.
Thanks again:bigthumb:

We picked up a new tent last year and Coleman recommended a sealers on the seams to keep the water out. I'm sure it would work well on boat cover seams as well. If you like I can ask my wife what it was that we used.

I've been using a product called Starbrite and putting it on with a pump-up garden sprayer. Lasts about one season on my old canvas bimini.

I used Scotch guard last year on my covers.. It seamed to hold up well.. But I was told to use 303 product for my new seats .. I know 303 has all sorts of stuff for different fabric, etc. I'm going to try 303 products on everything this year.. Just my thought...
