How many would want a checkmate jacket ?

Just putting this out there and will have to get Kips permission also but how many people would be interested in a Checkmate jacket ?

Nothing against the people selling the checkmate stuff from the main site just not my cup of tee.

Was thinking of doing a jacket up similar to
the one from Mercury racing, with a fleece removeable liner. With the Checkmate logo and chess piece in the back and again smaller in the front. Of course the more who wanted them the cheaper so just putting this out there. You can reply here if that OK with Chris and once we have a decent amount I will check on a price.

The jacket I am refering to is this one.

Bigmoss,

I would check with Kip first. Checkmate have to protect their trademarks. The people that do their shirts and such for them have an license agreement to use the logos etc under license. And I would suspect they pay Checkmate a small fee every time they do so.

Well Kip when you look at this thread if you could give us your opinion on this or see if your supplier who already has the licensing can make them up ?

It is just the jackets he has now are not an nice as this one ( just my opinion )

Lets see what Kip says.

I would likely buy one in black, but only if the Checkmate logo appeared in small print on the front (top left corner). I dont like the logo in huge on the back, it's overkill as we all can see it on the front as well....too much, I hate it when people smear logos all over clothing, it is subtle and nice to just have it on the front of the coat, no where else...just my .02

I lkie the orginal take on the design like the Merc jacket, little on the front big on the back. would it be the new "horse head" logo or the words "CHECKMATE" like on my boat.Count me in for 1 XL please!!

OK guys here is where we stand I spoke to the people that already make and have the licensing permission for the checkmate clothing and they would be more than happy to make us the jackets BUT of course we need a final tally for quantity before she can quote, the more we have the lower the price.

I am in for 2 myself, that makes a total of 11 with the posts here, we have 109 views on the thread, so now that it is confirmed the people that already make the checkmaqte stuff will do it please chine in if you want one.

It will be like the mercury one with the fleece liner that comes out for the warmer days, the larger logo in the front anf the small one front left chest. Once I have a final number to give her I will ask for a photo to post so we can ALL agree and make changes if need be, maybe even add your boat model etc if you wish some where. And maybe Chris's site address etc.

Lets say we maybe ask CHRIS to pin this thread say until 2nd week in April then we will tally the numbers and get a price.

JY and DAVE, I expect you Ottawa guys like me to get in here for one

Let me know guys, lets make this happen.

I'll pin this one for ya. No problem there.

A few things to keep in mind fellas.

I've ordered a bunch of stuff a few times from Brilliant who does Mate's stuff. They ship their packages by UPS. So if you're in Canada, you end up paying UPS's huge brokerage fee. One time I paid $80 bucks on a $250 order. I've tried to convince Brilliant to ship using my corporate purolator account but they wouldn't. I guess they had concerns about the order getting lost and who would be responsible.

Anyhoo, just something to factor into your purchase decision.

For the guys in Canada, maybe we could find one central person to ship to and then we could ship the orders seperately from there. I'm not sure if that would save us money, but it would save us all from paying UPS' rediculous brokerage fee.

I already spoke with her about using the USPS and she said no problem but had to confirm, but yes an easy way around it is to just send them to one central location and the reship from there not much too it. All that will be worked out before anything is done.

Chris do I put you down for one ?

AND GUYS WHEN YOU POST I NEED SIZES

Thanks

Being in Canada and buying stuff from the States , I can say that I will not buy if UPS has anything to do with it they are the worst to deal with. Best way is with The USPS. faster and way cheaper. count me in if you can use USPS.

Bigmoss:

having been down this road before, find out the country of origin for the jacket. If it's made in the US then there should be no duty on it. Made elsewhere, and it could be as high as 80%. Remember too, part of the fees that UPS or any other broker charges is GST. you can't escape that little detail.

Chris: for using your purolator account in the states you have to get them to ship via airborne express who will then link it to purolator. Up unitl 2 years ago i did a ton of shipping from the States to Canada and found the airborne thing by accident - worked great.

yes Big Moss i'll take 1 maybe 2. we could use my broker (UPS) for the boarder or even throw them in the mates that i have ordered. sh sh sh just keep that hush hush.
