Good Morning All,

I have been looking for a checkmate for a few months and think i found the one just need some advice.

It is a 17ft 1988 Checkmate with a 115 hp Mariner O/B. It seems to be in great shape.

Couple questions...what is the model of the boat the HIN is CHK36299h788.

Is this strictly a river/lake boat or is it possible to run about in the LI Sound (I live in CT).

Also the person selling it has it listed for 2k im gonna offer $1500 is that a good price?

Please follow the link to the pictures and a video of the ob idling.

Thanks.

Welcome Beast,

$1500 sounds pretty good to me. If the motor is strong, you are getting the boat for cheap.

The boat is definately an '88, but I don't know the model by the HIN. Predictor maybe?

Good luck, maybe I will see you out there.:thumb:

Welcome FNG!:D I think it's a Starfire. Having a small boat, when it gets rough it gets a little scary. I don't have enough freeboard to keep the water out if a big wave comes my way so I always have to be vigilant.

The price is certainly right, but as Forest Gump says... Do your do diligence and check the Check out.

Thanks all. I am going over there again on friday with a friend who knows a bit more about boats than i do to check it out/purchase it. The floors are solid. Over all it is in very good shape the only thing i dont like is the windshield that doesnt seem to be original. I thought that they were chrome with a dividing strip in the middle. If all goes well and i do purchase it looks like i will be searching for a windshield and hand bars (i like how it looks with them on). Any more info would be great thanks!

Anything on the 88 Mariner 115hp...Ive been reading some and it seems it is a decent motor...

Welcome to the Obsession!

That motor is the same as a Merc only grey so it is a good one.

Oh and.......:needpics:

I saw that is was the same...sounds good to me! there is a link in my first post that has pictures and a video. Does it not work? (I havent figured out how to post pics/vid in the here. I will soon!)

Looks like a very nice boat for the price! Provided it is solid.....

Definitely looks like a nice boat especially for that price. I just wish people would stop putting those awful mailbox letters for their reg, it really takes away from the looks of the boat.
