Starflite setback?

Is 18" too much setback for my starflite? As of right now, it will only have a 2.4 200 hanging on it, so weight shouldn't be too much of an issue. The transom on the boat is really solid, but I would be willing to do some beefing if necessary. Any input would be greatly appreciated!!!

i had 12 on mine. i have heard that 15 was the demise of quit a few. anything more than 12 i would add some support on the back of the boat;)

I'd cut out the floor from the transom up to the front of the gas tank and add some major knees to the transom. The factory knees are only attached to the floor and add no real support to the transom. Here is what I did to mine. I currently have my heavy 3.0 hanging 10" back and plan to add 4 more inches very soon. I went a little extreme with mine since I was refinishing the whole boat and also got rid of the splash well lip. Add some support to the transom and you should be ok with that light motor.

18" is a lot. When i tinkered with my starflite, i got into a heavy conversation about this and no one rec. anything much over 12" unless you are going with stupid big power and LOTS of re-inforcement of the transom. Good luck with your choice, let us know how it works out.

Yeah, with 4 people in the boat it porpoises a lot under 40 the way it is. I'm just going to stick with my original 12" of setback. Maybe do some strengthening of the transom and throw a 3.0 on it.

With my 3.0 @ 10" back it only porpoises under 28 MPH. It may be a little work beefing up the transom, but I can tell you it's way worth it. You will love the low end grunt of the 3.0 compared to the 2.4.
