So I am about 3/4 done with the break in on the motor/outdrive. I was taking it up from 75% throttle to 100% for short burst. 1x she is purring:drool:. 2x she is screaming:drool::drool: 3x she got a kick in the rear and hauling balls:drool::bounce::drool:. Very happy so I bring her back down to around 2800rpm and go about another 3 minutes up the river enjoying her nice exhaust tone and great ride. She is getting alot of attention(lil slut) and everyone is turning heads. All of a sudden BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG. I slammed the throttle off and killed the ignition with the other hand. I checked the oil level and its full and crystal clean. Had about 70psi. Water temp was 170* and it was not hot to the touch on the risers. So I bust out the oar and rowed to near the bank and dropped anchor. Called my buddy that was at the marina but he could not help because his port engine is overheating. So I called my buddy Evan and after 10 minutes of screaming, he finally was convinced I was not fu#king with him about it. He was near my house so he grabbed the,,,,,,,,,shall I say it?????baja and headed down to the rescue. Me and the GF got up in the cubby for a while(you know, to get out of the sun:sssh:) About 1 hour later here comes this lil boat nearing me and going airboarn by atleast 4', yes 4'. By this time the river was bumping and there was 2 barges go by right after another. 2'+ waves. I jumped into the cat and took off for about 1/4 mile and came back and we hooked up the tow rope and headed back to the marina. A hour later I got it back in and loaded on the trailer. I took the cat back out with the GF with me for a 15 minute run since the water had settled down to about a 2" wind chop.
to sum up the rambling
mate broken:pissed:
Played with the GF's titties and put a notch on the matress:banana:
rescued by a baja:brickwall:
Still better than a good day @ work:o, I guess.

BTW, I emptied the GPS before the run and when we got back it had max speed was 74mph. Did not seem like we were going that fast?????

Just pulled the valve cover off and there is white everywhere. Somehow, I must have got water in the oil. I dont know where as it looked clean as can be while floating on the water. Maybe a intake manifold gasket leak???

dude, what happened? sounds like a cracked block, or hopefully
just a head gasket. hope you get it straight quick, but seems
like you have a back up boat and won't miss any h2o time:thumb:

MAN that blows. I sure hope its a gasket. you may want to have a look at the cilynders while your at it. :thumb:

my buddys baja filled the motor up this weekend. started to take it apart friday at about midnight, found a ripped intake gasket. first thing in the am went to the local speed shop, threw it back together, changed the oil 35 times lol and was out by 5pm saturday. seems to be in good shape now. could be head gasket, could be a cracked block or sleave, could be allot of stuff.
that sucks tho. besides grabbing the titties:cheers:

So I just drained about 2 gallons of water out of the oil pan. Got the intake off and there was no 100% signs of leaking there. Looked a little funny but not like it was torn or anything. So back out to remove the exhaust manifolds and outdrive so I can pull the motor and pan to see the damage. The cam does look good on the lubes with no sign of damage, however the bearing surfaces are yet to be determined.

I love the white sludge that is covering all the internals:brickwall:

That sound aint no gasket:lol:
Gump your a fu#kin genius:poke:. All the knowledge you have about our boats dont mean crap when you "LOL" at other people's misfortune there red :irked:. I dont think it was ment as a personal post tho, if it was then WTF?
What I was saying by that was, my first thought was intake gasket was leaking into the lifter gallery. This intern filled the oil pan with water. This intern caused the engine to go BANG, BANG. Caused by a bad gasket. That was not the case.

Today, I got her on the stand. The #2 cyl is split wide open. Metal in the pan. Also found a small threaded headless bolt in that cyl. I am thinking it came from the carb, maybe one of the butterfly bolts?? I know I did not drop it in there on the build. Total carnage:mad:. The block is so thin where its split that I dont know how it didnt split on inital fire up. Its .030 over and I would say that if it was .060, it would be through the wall. As for the screw, its a mystery as to where it came from that I must find out. Deff going with a new carb on the new motor.

I was not laughing at your motor blowing I was just stating that if a gasket blew it would not go bang bang.

 this smiley is hollering
:D this smiley is smiling

Name one thread einstein where I laughed at somebody's misfortune

Just alot agrovated with this motor deal red. Like I said you do have a vast amount of knowledge And, I did say I didnt think it was personal. :yell:= yell or hollering,=LOL. But no foul, didnt mean to jump at ya, lets drink a .

Anyway, back on topic.

Oh man, thats no good at all, this is one of my favorite threads, I know you will recover and be back on the water soon.

I feel for ya, sucks when this happens. I hope you figure out where the bolt came from. I had a fresh 440 do this. Never did figure out where the headless bolt came from.

That sound aint no gasket:lol:
a bad gasket could very easily make the motor go bang bang bang. water leaks in fills it up, and bang bang bang.

can you take a picture of the mystery bolt?
i have been doing motors for a while now and my buddy is BIG into small and big blocks. maybe we can help figure out what the hell it is.

not sure if you have a good machine shop near you, but my buddy has his own place, he is the best i have seen, i have seen him pop new sleaves in those motors 100 times and i can tell you that its as good as stock. he is unreal if you need someone you can trust doing it, he is the guy. he does all my machine work on all my own stuff and every car i build. he is unreal and very reasonable with price:cheers:

I will get the pic of it posted tonight. I got a engine builder that is at the end of my street. Been sending motors to him for years and he does good work. He built my 300+ hp 60* 3.4 for me about 6 years ago and its still runs like new.

I dropped off the heads to have them looked at. I also am going now to get a replacement 350 in indy to just drop in for the remainder of the season. From there, the cracked block is getting dropped off and resleved, and a 400 crank installed for next year. I might even upgrade to aluminum heads, what do you guys think about running them?? I will have aluminum manifolds on it also so there wont be a huge amount of weight hanging off the heads.
