2:1 Gearcase prop help

Vandalizer

Hey everyone- I finally found the magic height for my Enticer and the 26p Laser II. Spun it to 5950 and 64 GPS this past Saturday, 12% slip. I don't think I can squeeze anything else out of it as is, so I'm wondering what other prop options I might have. I don't think Mercury makes anything above 26p in the small hub variety that I need- any suggestions? I don't have a low water pickup, just the top three of eight intake holes plugged, so I don't know if I can run 'surfacing' props effectively.

Thanks in advance! I'd love to see how much more I can push toward 70.

Honestly, i think your tryin to squeeze water from a rock at this point.

We all are trying to go faster and get that last mph. But i think you got all you can out of it, you could get a different lower and maybe run a taller prop but it that worth that money to you??

my 2 cents

Yep, I understand that. It's definitely not worth that to me. I'm just wondering what other prop options I may even have with the same lower. I don't know anything about non-Merc props, and they end at 26p for my lower.

I suppose I could try to get the 26 worked into a 28? No idea what that would run, but I'd rather not lose the 26- great for up to three people and light gear.

Hey Buss- get in touch if/when you plan to hit the river more. I'd love to try your 28 chopper. Seems like that may be my only option, if it even works.

(Tried to PM you, but your inbox is full)

Trophy Plus 4 blade 26p is what i am spinning on my predictor with my XR2,

getting 69-70 out of it and it gives me great bow lift... which we need... let the prop raise the bow and keep the motor only slightly trimmed

I am frankly amazed that you are able to spin that 26 lazer at those rpms with your motor

Ideally I'd top out at 5800 or so.

I'm pleasantly surprised too! I think it's kinda cool, haven't ever seen any Predictor/Enticer in this speed range using inlines- only V6's. The biggest problem for me is my gear ratio, most props only go up to 24-26", and I could use at least a little more pitch.

You can run a small hub 4 blade like a Trophy on that gear case. Or an over the hub chopper. I would say you are already 5 mph faster than I ever thought a inline 6 Merc would push that hull... but good on ya!

I see you have had great success with your boat and motor setup for performance. You suggested last winter a 24p Laser 2 prop for my boat for a start. And it was very good place to have started as it is close. I have a 1978 V mate 1 title says 16 foot but it is hardly 15 foot long. I have my motor set up so that it is running with the first two water pickup holes even with the bottom of my boat. I have lowered it to the top hole and then back to where it is at the 4 th. hole and now back to the 2nd. hole. The long and short of it is that I have what I think is a lot of slip for this size of boat turning a 13 1/2 inch prop. My motor is at 5700 rpm. and 56 mph. on GPS. witch I believe is 14%. The motor specs are for rpm. 4850-5300 WOT. Do you think a Trophy prop would have more traction in the water. 4 blades run 100 rpm. slower that 3 blade so I was thinking a 25p trophy would put it at 5300 and gain some speed as the motor as is does not work very hard to push this boat. Is your 5800 a safe RPM. for this motor? mine is 1978.

Just got to try a Trophy plus 26p prop on my set up yesterday afternoon. Great prop no blowout and less slip. It brought my rpm in range according to Mercury specs. Now at 5350rpm. and running at 62mph. GPS. Boat has to be trimmed even with the water or it starts to chine walk. Not much boat in the water so you cant turn so much without it skidding. But the boat is very smooth and handles well in the turns between 45 and 50 where the laser 2 would blow out if you hit a wave while turning. I had run these props on my Starflight with 225 last year and worked well I just did not think the inline 115 would turn it well. I was also able to raise the motor a little more. Now 4 3/4" below the V with center of prop. If you are turning 5800 with yours then I would say your motor is very strong for a 115 and you are lucky! Try the Trophy props.
