Looking for 16ft Checkmate open bow

wickedrister has a nice 16' open bow for sale. I've been to his place and seen it. I'm looking for a good ski boat and thought it might work but decided I needed a little more room and more than 135HP. But if you don't mind buying the motor too, it's a sweet boat. He did a very nice job on the...

I'm still looking for a boat

Yea, I've heard that before and it was the advice of my local marine service center as well.

I'm still looking for a boat

I found what I thought was "the one". A really nice Diplomat in PA. I talked with my local Checkmate dealer/service center and the told me the same thing. Stay away from the stringer and OMC drives. Turns out this particular boat had both. A double cursed kiss of death! Thanks for the responses.

I'm still looking for a boat

Yea, I really like these boats, but they seem a bit rare. Mostly what I'm finding are much bigger boats, which I guess is more the trend these days as lakes become more crowded and traffic gets worse. The smaller boats from the 80's are getting harder to find, and many of them have OMC outdrives...

I'm still looking for a boat

I've been all over boattrader for a while now. Mostly what I'm seeing are bigger boats, and lots of OB's, mainly closed bow. I'll look again for the one in Michigan. Thanks

I'm still looking for a boat

I'm in Virgina. Sorry, I guess I should add a little more detail to my user profile. I guess that would help.

I'm still looking for a boat

I've decided that a 16' to 18', V6 I/O, with open bow is what I really want. I really think this will make the best all round family boat and basically suit all our needs (easy to tow, enough room, power to ski). I've found a few but theres always been some issue that shoots it down. If anyone...

pulling skier out with 135HP 16' enticer

Thanks guys. Sounds like the hole shot with the 135 might be marginal, but might be okay with a 5 blade low pitch prop. I could keep the other prop on board to swap out for cruising. What about jack plate position? How should that be adjusted for best torque getting the skier up?? Should I take...

pulling skier out with 135HP 16' enticer

Thanks Blizz - What is your opinion about jack plate position for skiing? Someone else told me to take it off all together. I can see where the motor being a few inches farther back would tend to raise the bow..

pulling skier out with 135HP 16' enticer

Well I went and looked at wickedrister's enticer Sunday (see link below). It is a very pretty boat and he has been very maticulous in refurbishing it. Very few things to gripe about except several spider webs in the fiberglass, espescially around corners. I'm thinking with a proper ski pylon and...

    max HP on 16' enticer

That makes sense that the jack plate would cause the bow to rise since it puts the engine further back on the boat. Moving the center of gravity back will definately make the bow rise, which will cause slower hole shots, especially while pulling up a skiier. Thanks!

    Looking for good ski boat

Chris and JW, thanks for the valuable info. I think we could be happy either way, acknowledging compromises in both. I do remember the O/B I owned was noisey compared to my folks stern drive. But one thing is for sure, there are a lot more O/B's around for sale than are I/O's. That may have a...

    Looking for good ski boat

Chris, First let me thank you for all your help and cooperation getting my account activated. I'm glad to finally be on site and coresponding. Second, I totally agree with your boat choice assesment. There is of course compromise in everything. What we really need is a good all around family...

What set up is best for water skiing?

Thanks again guys for the candid opinions. The feeling I have is much like many things in life, everything involes compromise. The O/B boat will have a smaller wake and the boat will weigh less which will make towing behind the family mini van much easier. But the I/B will probably last longer...

    Looking for good ski boat

Thanks Matefever. I'm getting a lot of good feed back here. I dont remember what pitch wickedrister said he had, 21 I think. SO what are you recommending, somthing like a 15 or less? Also, how would I adjust the jack plate for best hole shot? Thanks!
