    Motor to Jackplate Mounting Height

Sounds like a good solution. How does moving my motor back effect the holeshot? Also, are these for sale on the net? Have a url?

    Motor to Jackplate Mounting Height

When tilting up the 135 merc on my 89 Sportfire, the outer steering arm will hit the top of the Jackplate if the motor is tipped up to high. This has been a problem as the kids don't always remember to pay attention and that steering piston gets bent. I raised the motor mounting up recently...

    Sealing Screw Holes in Hull

Thanks again for the feedback. In case others are tasked with this, I ended up using a hair dryer to warm up the decals while carefully peeling them off. This worked pretty well. I assume the checkmate stickers have been on since new '89. The Sportfire is at New England Fiberglass getting...

    Sealing Screw Holes in Hull

The jackplate is bare aluminum. Thanks, I'll take this advice. Are there any tricks to getting those stickers off? I'm thinking a hair dryer will speed things up but haven't tried it yet.

    Sealing Screw Holes in Hull

I recently stripped my 89 Sportfire hull in preparation for gel coat reconditioning. I got the name of someone local that is supposed to be good at this. A few questions: - When I get to putting all of the hardware back on, should I squirt some silicon into any below waterline screw holes...

    New Plywood for Rear Bench

OK, thanks for the feedback. Yeah, there are some steel staples in parts of it now. These are so rusty I can pick them off with my finger nail. Others are stainless, though. Sounds pretty straight forward. I'm ready to rock. I'll take the advice on good glue and stainless staples. I...

    New Plywood for Rear Bench

I've read other's questions regarding seat rebuilding and think this might be something I can take on. The plywood in the back portion of the bench seat is begining to rot around the edges. Is there more to this than unstapling the cover, cutting new plywood, and restapling the cover and foam...

    Enchanter on eBay

I asked the seller for some pictures of this one. 86 Enchanter Doesn't have any of the motor or compartment but the rest look really nice. Did Checkmate make Enchanters with a jet drive? It sounds like a fun boat. Never bought anything big from eBay, seems pretty risky.

    This is not good!

Too bad. That was a nice looking mate. As I recall, it had a rare but desireable engine. Maybe that will be worth someone's time. Wish this was in New England, it might have been safe and sound in my garage.

    Tpondal's 1989 Sportfire

Thanks for posting these Chris. I'll send some shinier replacements after I rub the shine back into the deck (probably in the spring). Otherwise, this is in great shape. Checkmates Rock

    Compression Test Results

I looked this up on the site you mention MrWick. It looks like the 89's have a serial number that start with the letter "C". Am I reading this wrong? I would like to know the year. Thanks for checking. Spark plugs that have been in the motor for a while (weeks), don't look too bad, I think...
