    mid-late 80's Black Max 175Hp Compression

I posted recently about having done a cold compression test on a Merc V6 175Hp Black Max, mid to late 80's. Was real surprised to see only 90lbs compression! Figured it was worn out... Compression tested an 87 Merc V6 150Hp Black Max today and results were 80psi across... Are these lower...

    A Checkmate Wannabe!

Ended up buying a 1983 Predictor. Stringers and floor redone and floor glassed over. Not sure if that's how they came originally, or bare wood under the carpet. Needs carpeted still. Transom redone as well. Teleflex no-feedback steering, foot, as well as throttle lever operated trim. Guessing...

    Glastron Carlson Transoms

Pretty new here, and in fact bought my first Checkmate; 83 Predictor with a 175Hp Merc :) The question i'm looking for an answer here for is, are Glastron-Carlson's known to have weak transoms? I have a chance to purchase a 1983 G/C CVX-17, with a 115Hp Merc. This boat is in pretty decent...

Predictor, Predictor II, and Predictor II CE ?

http://boatspecs.iboats.com/Checkmate_Boats__Predictor__1983/bp/34br1101s9738y According to iBoats Database, the Predictor II CE is also 50 lbs heavier. I checked the Enticer also, which had the same 2 models; II and II CE. Also 50lbs heavier for the CE model... These are all in 1983. It's...

Merc 175 Black Max on 16'5ft Predictor?

have a late 80's early 90's Merc 175 BM on an 83 Predictor, which has had the rear bench seat removed and glassed over. Reasoning was to keep water coming over the stern with the weight of the 175. Is this boat not capable of handling a 175 without swamping everytime ya slow down a bit too...

    Black Max years made?

I assume you meant "extra work" removing the lower unit? And to clarify; a water intrusion would be evident by the presenceof water in the oil, seen when drained? Wasn't sure if there usually IS some, but, i wouldn't have thought so! As usual, appreciate the info!!

    Mercury outboard water intake modification

Appreciate the replies guys; wondered if this was some home made mod! Is this done by changing to some aftermarket prop housing? Asking in case i have reason to return to original... Thanks

    Black Max years made?

You're saying there is no need to winterize this outboard motor by running marine antifreeze through it before being stored "outside" for the winter? I have read some people just remove the lower unit for the winter, then reinstall with new oil in the spring. Acceptable? Any added benefit to...

    Black Max years made?

80's ? 175 Black Max coolant capacity? I don't seem to be able to find an approximate capacity; may not even be commonly advertized info, of how much antifreeze these motors typically need for winterizing.. Great forum here, by the way and i certainly appreciate the time anyone responding...
