    I'm new...Got my first Checkmate!

Garage Alan, I think its 24 feet deep. Inside It is just shy of 24ft. As you saw in the pics it barely fits. I have to back it in till the boat levels out then trim the motor down to "shorten" then overall lenth to squeeze it in. But it fits and thats what counts.....its out of the...

    Question about Imco lower unit

What do you think of an Imco lower unit? I have heard good and bad. Heard that you should gain a MPH or so but heard from some that they have lost MPH with an Imco. I have a 20ft Senator with a built 350 with an Alpha lower on it now. I have a chance to get a Imco shortened 2" for a pretty...

    Oil Filters

I have to agree with just about everyone on here....Wix and K&N are really good filters and when the manufacture builds the engine they design/select a filter to use that they think will work the best. So the AC Delco and Mercruiser filters should be pretty good as well. Me personally I have...

    Powertrain questions about my Senator

I hear ya. Thanks again guys for all the help and info. If I do end up pulling it apart ill get the numbers off the heads. When you say a "marinized" engine. What's are the differences between that and a 350 out of a car/truck? I have heard that before but never asked why and what the...

    Powertrain questions about my Senator

I was told the motor was a 350. I was just wondering what year motor it was for when I go to get parts or whatever. I also noticed the corvette emblem in the valve cover and it really started making me curious. I know someone could have just thrown those covers and or heads on it but still...

    Powertrain questions about my Senator

The boat is an 87 Checkmate Senator. A few owners ago had dropped a BBC in it and ran it for a few years. Then pulled his motor out and put this one in it when he sold it. Thats about what I know about it.

    Powertrain questions about my Senator

I was thinking about it last night and it dawned on me that when I registered the boat the motor serial # was on the title. Not sure if its for the motor I have in it but I guess its worth a shot. The # is B960849. Not sure how accurate this is because I know a few different motors have been...

    Powertrain questions about my Senator

OK. I saw the surface you were talking about. I cleaned it up best I could and couldnt see any numbers or letters. Is it possible the block has been cleaned up at a machine shop or something and the numbers got shaved off? Any other way to tell? heres some pics of where I was looking.

    Powertrain questions about my Senator

Just went out to the garage to try and find the #'s. Didnt find/see any #'s on the heads. I found a # cast in the top rear of the block near the bell housing.......from what I made out of it it looked like...H2B3. Also on the side rear near the oil filter housing I found 2 3 digit #'s stacked...

    Powertrain questions about my Senator

Block #'s Where would I find the block #'s. I found a # molded in the back of the block which is 3970010. Also found a small plate on the fron side of the block with the #'s 254194 stamped in that. Are these #'s of any use?

    Powertrain questions about my Senator

How many RPM's and HP can an Alpha handle? I'm guessing my motor has around 300hp and was toying with the idea on beefing it up a bit when I pull it out to replace the gimble ring I broke. Not sure yet though. Just want to know my options.

    Powertrain questions about my Senator

I recently bought an 87 Senator. Has a 350 in it. Guy before me said the guy before him took it out and dropped a BBC in it then put the 350 back in it. The motor just looks like a 350 but I noticed a Corvette logo/emblem on the valve cover. Can anyone tell me any info on this or did he...
