I know this is taboo for some people, but I did it anyway.. so

So far so good with my new boat ( I know not a Checkmate) a 26zx Donzi. I thought I would post any way incase any of you have 496's & anre interested in going further with it. I finally got the engine done (496 Mag HO with a custom whipple set up, big big heat exchanger, auxillary oil cooler, etc, etc). I am still prop testing.. I am waiting for some 5 blades. I cant keep the 4 blades locked up well with the high x dimension & the new power. I grabbed about a solid 10mph with a 30p b1 & I still have throttle & torque. The 32p b1 still blows out, there is too much slippage with them. I think the 5 blade will do the trick. I may also go the route of one of Julie's custom cnc props after I do a bit more testing.. Once I get the prop hooked up for a bit It pulls quite well Yippie..

I cant wait to get in the 5 blades to try.. I just hope I get them to try before the docks come out up here.. I want to be all ready for next season..

As soon as I get a chance I will get the video clips together..

sounds nice...

looks like it runs a little wet, is it a step bottom boat? jsut curious, never really knew much about the donzis.

Thanks.. Yes it is a step hull (twin step + a notched transom) & It is a little tiny bit on the wet side for where I want it (but it is close) as I am still prop testing. The boat has a very high x dimension & I am trying to get a prop to lock up a bit more. My slippage is quite high yet.. That being said I am 10-15 mph faster than the boat was stock already. The pics & clips taken were also full of fuel (apx 100 gal).. Currently the best prop I have used to date is a 30p B1, however I still have some throttle left & I need more prop bite because the slippage is still on the high side. I also tried a 32 maximus 5 blade, but it loaded the unit a little too much for the way I have it set up.. I think I will probably end up with a 30 maximus 5 blade & may end up lab finishing it.. I think that will give me a little higher ride (although it is close to how they are) & I should see an additional few mph.. Hoping for low to mid 80's on gps, I am in the mid to high 70's currently.. Not bad for a big heavy single engine boat (7k+ lbs when loaded up as tested).. :) Jamie / Lakeside

Hey thanks for posting all the info. My boat is in the shop as I write this. Removed the 496 and installed a 500EFI that has been worked over to 509. It was set up with a Pro Charger but I had it taken off. Maybe next winter I will experiment with a whipple kit. I am curious about your prop setup and what number you will achieve when you get it dialed in. Good luck.

I will post more when I get some more done with it. I was out again the other day with it prop testing. I still dont like my prop test results. So I will likley now play with drive height a little bit (put it deeper with a spacer) & then do some more prop testing.. I dont know if I will get back out until the spring now though as the weather has gotten quite cold & they pulled the docks.. :(
