here is a pic of what i think is the water bypass on my 87 200 merc-f150gt tells me that it's sticking or stuck! anyong have a remedy for this? this pic is obviously with the cover of and the little white "plunger" in the center is stuck!

that is your poppet valve... it should have a spring that pushes it tward the cover you removed. it looks stuck to me. pull it off & see what you have...kurt

what is the best way to pull it off? the next question is did i put the water pressure line in the motor in the right spot?? maybe i made a mistake!!!! i have some pics of that in another thread!:yell:

pull the popeet out.. it seats in a gromet in the block...on your pres gauge that was a PLUG????? if so yes you can reed pres there..kurt

pulled it out and the spring seems to be working fine.... did not feel stuck at all! i just ran it after doing so and the same...............

just ran the boat in a 55 gal. drum thinking that i was getting a wierd reading due to the muffs-still the same problem! any thoughts?

the guage?- it maxes out at above 15psi at 1800 rpm's! at idle (1000)rpm's it's reading about 8psi...........

just wanted to make sure the muffs were NOT making more pressure than the impeller was pulling in!

the pop off... the thing you had apart yesterday with the spring. block pres pushes in the inside of it to relief hi block pres..kurt

when installed the spring should push the diaphram out.. when water pres is to great the seat opens & spring shortens & alows water to bleed of to lower the pres... not sure how else to expalin it.. if you have aservice manuel. it is shown... kurt

the spring is pulling the "valve" tight to the seat! almost like it's backwords!!! i do have a service manuall but not sure were to find it-let me know!!! also i want to put the boat in the water in the a.m. will it be ok to run with this prob?

hi water pres can make a engine run cold, foul plugs, poor performance & even fail cyls..... the poppit diaphram should stick out from the block when the cover is off the cover when installed applies pres... i'll be around today building my buddys 300x... i think he's chomping at the it.... kurt 920 735 0965

if thats the case then the spring acts like its backwards. i had to pull the plunger out and the spring pulled it back in. how is this possible? is there any way to fix that?
