I snapped a few picture's of our local lake as they are dropping the water for winter flood control. It just looks nasty!

Are those water lines on the top halves of those poles? Alot of water missing if that where it is normally!

Yep! Those marks are summer level. Every 10 years, they drain it completely for valve inspection. This the 10th year. I will take some pic's then. The intake is 300ft below summer pool!

All i can say is wow :eyecrazy:, that's alot of water gone!! You sure can tell it's a clean lake tho, doen't look like sea weed is much of an issue lol.

Yep, that is summersville. There is a cool story about the name of the lake. In most cases, they name a lake or the dam after the closest town or the town that may have been consumed by the water. In this case, the town of Gad existed right in the are of the dam and the camp groung. The US Army Corp of engineers and the local politicians decide that Gad Dam my cause a bit of a stir, so they named it after the town of Summersville. Gad Dammit!

boatman sorry that this has to happen but you can always come down south for a vaca :thumb: water level is always high here

Looks like our lakes around here espcially lake travis. and we are not trying to get ready for winter weather it is just that low.

The fishing is great right now. When they get it down to inspection level, there still pockets of water big enough to sustain the fish. On a normal year, they start filling it back up on the 1st of April and it is full by May 1st.

Cool pics. They drop the lake here 4 feet every 4 or 5 years but its to give property owners a chance to do maintenance and more importantly to kill off the weeds near the shoreline. Sim and Knarloid can attest to the weeds in the shallow areas. :(

I feel your pain Big Daddy!! The old Concord is winterized and under cover for the next few months. I'm gonna try and get up to summersville a little more next year so we will have to get together again. Hopefully you will have a good battery and I will have more gas next time, lol! Anyway, stay warm this winter and hit me up come boating season!
