SCT, There are some notable differences. The CLE's don't have the bow lifting properties of the Bob's Coned lower units..they seem to run more level. If I trim up too far I don't gain any speed, just a big rooster tail. This could be due to the shorter length of snout on the cone. On the 2800 this is not a bad thing because the bow (as light as it feels with 24"plus of setback) can easily become flighty. The separation of the gear cases at 24" centers does make the boat more managable at docking; and spreading and raising the motors 3" keeps them out of the water while idling or backing down. I have lost some speed which I'm working on. With no cabin I was running 72mph. With the full cabin/full fuel at 18" centers and 2.4L Mercs I was running 66-68mph. The best I've seen with the new setup so far is 66.55 mph but I'm running on rec 90 fuel that's over a year old, I've not changed spark plugs/checked timing/cleaned carbs/etc. on the new motors yet...just impatient and wanted to get the beast wet again. Either fortunately (or unfortunately depending upon how you view it) I may be going through another re-rig as I've just got my hands on twin Merc 260 powerheads. If I decide to install them I will go back to 18" centers (loved the look) with the 260 style cowls and possibly 20" mids this time round. All I would need to do is swap out drive shafts on my lower units. Nick's Creative Marine is trying to convince me to get rid of the old racing B brackets for a Stainless Marine floatation box bracket. I just hate the thought of filling transom holes and redrilling a dozen + holes in the transom to install a boxed bracket...

JP, congrats on getting her wet again. Could you feel any difference in torque with the 2.5s vs 2.4s?

A few pics from sunday. Nice run in the ocean through some 1-3' swells and some sand bar hopping!
