100:1 AMSOIL for outboards

Has anyone used the AMSoil Saber 100:1 synthetic premix in their outboard? I would like to minimize the smoke from my 81 Merc 150 and want to try different oils than the Merc oil. This 100:1 caught my eye so I thought I would ask before I try and blow my motor! 100:1 seems awful lean to me.

Amsoil

You will probably get numerous opinions on this oil lost of people swear by it but lots of builders don't like some of the things they see inside motors when disassembled.

i have seen the comparison between arctic cat oil and amsoil head to head. two f7's owned by 2 brothers were run within about 50 miles of each other when they had to come in for warranty work (something to do with the oil injection system). the amsoil engine had NO signs of engine wear. the arctic cat engine had to have new pistons and rings and cylinder honing. scientific - hardly, but i was convinced. obviously this is an apples to oranges comparison (boats to sleds), but i don't think you can go wrong with amsoil, however, i'd be very wary of running 100 to 1 in a 25 year old engine regardless of whose oil it is.
