1980 20' Enchanter with a 25" Johnson 175

Hey guys, new to the site and to Checkmates.

I recently picked up a 77 Trimate 2 with a Johnson 175 on a whim. I got a decent deal and it was worth it to just get it for the motor(had over $1000 in service last year). When I took the boat out to test the motor it was kicking water everywhere.

Soon after I found this site and it turned out that the motor is too long. The center section is a 25" as far as I know. It measures about 34" from the bottom of the engine cover to the center of the prop.

Now I have been looking at a 1980 20' Enchanter. Would the motor work better on the Enchanter as it's bigger? I'm not looking to break any records, I just want a decently quick boat without the water coming in the cabin as it was on the Trimate.

I'm not sure what to do now.. Either get a jackplate and raise it 4 inches or so, which should help a small bit. Or change the mid section to a 20", tho that would get costly quick from what I hear.

I'm kinda stuck at the moment and was wondering what you guys suggest.
