2008 2100 Pulsare BR..Now What

What a sad day...My baby is hurt real bad. Not sure what to do next. Try and repair..repower..or just sell. 2008 Pulsare BR with a sick E-Tec 250 HO. Boat was probably worth 25K yesterday.. Not sure today after the E-Tec went south.
Thoughts? Offers..?? I am feeling ill.. My closest Evinrude dealer says by the sounds of things it would be an over the winter project and probably at least 5K to fix it. I have attached pics of the boat and the sparkplug I removed from the cylinder that is probably toast..

Let me know what you would do..or maybe what I can expect if I try and sell it?

Looks like a simple repower to me? Hit Bass Boat Central and find yourself a new/used Evinrude G1 outboard...there's a few on there...anywhere from $10K-$15K. You can probably find cheaper if you look around...you might think that's a lot, but there are literally almost no used late model 2100 BR's on the market. I'd put the $5K into a rebuild or $10K into new power. You're still thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars ahead of a new boat...just my 2 cents.

If you're willing to rerig and willing to go with Mercury...tons and tons of used ones out there on BBC...some even with controls.

Sorry to here your issue,

Rather than loose a season of boating I'd try to come up with 10-12,000 for a good used motor and sell your broken one for parts.

Hope you can find a affordable to you solution.

Lick your wounds and put a Merc on her. She is a beautiful boat and summer is here now. The wife will understand when you get her out on the water again!

You can buy a brand new 250 Merc for around 15-16 grand from Jacos marine. Sell your old motor for $2500 to $3000 and you will be good to go. I know it is a lot of money, but you will have a new motor with a warantee.

Looks like that cylinder went lean and melted a few things. Maybe a bad injector or clogged fuel filter.

Hey Jeff, sorry to hear about the troubles.

For what it's worth.... I'm VERY interested in the hull with or without power/controls. If you consider selling, let me know. Beautiful boat.

Yes I am considering all options at the moment, including selling it as is. I have the matching factory trailer which is in nice shape also. The gauges are all new, I replaced the eddie marine stuff over the winter with new BRP gauges (ICON). Engine for what it is worth has 308 hours on it. Let me know how much you are thinking. I am not needing to "give" it away, but I am not thrilled about spending 15K at the moment to repower either.

Maybe a reconnoiter of the damaged area might be in order? Was there some rattling going on? If it was still running, not locked up or sporting an unwanted opening in the block, might be repairable. You would want to diagnose and know why it went South. When you peer through the spark plug opening, is the piston still in one piece? With the cylinder head off, you would have a clearer image of what must be done.

Several companies offer rebuilt warrantied power-heads between 4 and 5 K, this would be a quick fix I would think.

I feel your pain - you are stuck with no really good options.

I guess it depends on if you have the money to spend - you have options to re-power / rebuild what you have. Maybe re-power for the summer, get the old drive rebuilt this off season and sell it to recoup some of the repower/repair cost?

If you sell it "as is" you are most likely going to lose the cost to repair the engine - so do you take the loss and not have a boat, ( and maybe no or less debt ) or take the loss and have a boat . . .

X2 lots of choices in the 4 grand range, don't know what a shop would charge to do the swap if you can't, but it shouldn't be cost prohibitive because it can't be that many hours for a mechanic to do the work.

PM'd you Jeff.

Just an update...I found a 2015 ETEC 250HO that still has 4 years of factory warranty on it to repower. Once I get it back together and working like it should I will have to determine if I am keeping or selling. I just could not make the numbers work to sell the boat without any engine. I am guessing/hoping it will be a 30K boat once she is back together. I could not get my ICON gauges to find the new motor so it is at the dealer at the moment trying to get them to work together.. Odd that the gauges worked fine with my 2008 and everything hooked up the same with the 2015 but no info from the new engine... Thanks for all the advice and interest in my boat!
