200hp Black Max Cowl Removal

boomboom

New member
I have not been able to remove the cowl on my 1983 Black Max. ...[the boat motor is serviced not by me -but out of the water at the start & end of the boating season by a dry land marina] & this summer it has a hornet's nest inside!

Can someone describe how to remove the cowl so I can get rid of it. I can get the front piece off only!!

on my '87 once you get the front piece off there is a clip you push in and then pull the latch apart..... it is very self explanitory...... but like i said it is an '87-hope that helps -ross-

Once you remove the face plate unlatch the sides swing them open and lift them straight up (they sit on two pins per side at the back of the motor)

there is a metal piece you can see behind the black cowl.....in the front.. make sure that is pushed back, the push the cowls together and then pull them apart! if you need more help p.m. me and i will help you on the phone!-ross-

keep a can of Gumout carb clean handy for your little friends when they fly out all pissed off!!! :yell: They won't be flying long after you hit 'em with that!
