251- one piece swim platform

I've searched but haven't found this topic covered. Just bought a '91 251 and I'd like to convert to a one piece platform. I've seen a few with one piece platforms but can't seem to find any info. I called checkmate and they told me to call extreme marine. I don't want to spend 1400 for a custom job. Anyone have any recommendations or have done this already? Thanks

The 251 is a custom job beings the exhaust tips come out where they do.
Jazzy made one from aluminum for his so he might be able to help point you.
I've looked and haven't found anything that wasn't custom and big bucks.
If you find something let us know, i would love to get rid of the seperates.

If you went that route, it would be alot cheaper to by a sheet and cut it yourself however you want it. Personnaly I've been looking for modern metals and finishes which = $

For a lot less than $1400 I could make you one! Anyone near with a 251 I can borrow so I can make a mold.... Might be able to use dogschools :) If I could get a couple guys to buy one, I would think I could make one for 1/2 that cost. I know Ross has been talking about one also

i will talk to my fabricator at work today and see what hes says....i have been interested in this since i got the boat:cheers:

I think I had less than 1000 into my billet one but I didn't have to buy new brackets I was going to build another for my new boat. But decided to go the tubular route and that 1499 price is without anything no ladder no grab rail no grip tape more like 2 bills all done

going to be a tight fit with thru hull exhaust, mine had 5" and was no way to do a one piece unless you put up on top section and I think that would look stupid as hell...now might be able to do one with a kick up over exhaust as I've seen that done before...

If you're going to do it with a kickup over exhaust it cou;d probably be built off the existing dual platforms. It should look pretty good in a design like that.

Yea, it would have to use the stock brackets and then kick up over the exhaust. I have a pic saved but can't find it now. I know I sent it to Ross so he might be able to post the pic....

if you look close, its pretty high on the transom. i will see if i can find the pic yf88 is talking about....

if you look real close the swim platform is higher then the chrome rub rail in spots. It probaly looks funky, is hitting the pipes and fits like poo.
I've run a streight line across the back of mine and thats what I would have going on.
I have thought about notching where the pipes are so they are in the platform i guess you could say but I'd have to mock it up to see how it looked.

i cant seem to find the pic either:brickwall: but the good news is my fabricator from my shop will be here at the house for my wifes b-day party tommorow:cheers: i will have him look over the boat and between the two of us i am sure we will come up w/ something! once we do....i will post pics of mine first, if you guys like it then i will get a count and the color you want( i get good pricing on powdercoating) and will get some made up:bigthumb:
give me some time though:thumb:

How much room between the top of the tips and the rub rail on a 251 somebody post a straight on transom shot

A streight line across the existing platforms is 1" above tips.
Useing 1" materail your gonna be hitting the tips The center shown is 3" from tip to rail but at either end its only1" at best.

Seems like a super easy retrofit for a billet platform take off swim platform tops reuse existing brackets billet is only 1/2 inch tall if the top of the brackets aren't over the top of the tips shim the top up tight to the rub rail with tubular aluminum and mount

The tops of the brackets are level with the stripe, lower then the tips.
Can't go below tips or outdrive will hit in trailer poistion. Would need to move brackets up and useing 1/2" materail I think it would work. Then you have to fill the 8 holes left behind.
