28p Trophy Pluss - too much

Tried out a 28p Trophy Pluss last weekend. Great driver at high speed, very little chine walk over 75 mph. Not a bad prop for me with a light load - 2 aboard.

The problem came in with 4 souls. Poor hole shot, not very good mid range acceleration, could only turn about 5400 rpm, engine jacked very high.

Going back to a Trophy Pluss 27P this weekend. Ran one last year - one day demo - worked much better.

More to report after this weekend runs.

This is the info I was waiting for ! Do you know for sure where you were jacked ? (propshaft in relation to pad) My best speeds have come from my lab finished 27 Trophy Plus. I was turning my 27 to 6200-6250. I was wondering if I'd see any gain by going up to a 28.............I'm thinking not from the sounds of it.

Thanks Ray

My favorite prop on my 2100/300X was a labbed Trophy. The hole shot and handling was the best by far of any prop I tried on the boat. It was only 2-3 mph slower on the top end from my ET, too. I think the key is to get the Trophies labbed.

Good luck-

I estimate 1.5 to 2 inches below the pad. Not much more. The engine is mounted in the bottom holes of the mounting bracket. The 10" jack plate was run up 75% of travel. I can do some checking this next week end with the boat on the lift, duplicating the settings I was using with the 28p.

I know when I had the Tempest prop on, at that height setting, or a little higher, I would get more RPM but less mph.

I did not run the 27p very much this past weekend - quite windy, big waves both days. However, the one run I did get in was pure pleasure. Great handling, hole shot, acceleration. Hope to get some speed runs in next weekend.

Commander,

I had thought long and hard of taking the time and effort to send the 28P to Merc and have it labbed. I believe they can do wonders. Here's the thing, I just did not want to do any more testing. The stock 27P Trophy does almost everything I am looking for - at this point.

My engine is a 250 Pro XS. I bet on a 300 the 28P would be hot.

When I was at the boat store last weekend to pick-up the new 27P, I looked at the 300's. Very cool. 3.2 stroker, built by Mercury Racing. There may be one in my future - after the warranty runs out on current Merc.

Thank's for you in-put.

Best prop on my pulsares with 300XS or 300 Promax was the 28 Trophy.....one thing about the 28's is they are really a different design then the 27's and smaller. If you look and compare them that 28 is a totally different animal. Ray you are right, seems like they only work with 300+ hp. I could load my puslares up full and the 28 would still get it planed off.
