"Wanted" 29-30 pitch prop

Reed

Active member
I need a 29-30 pitch prop to try next on my boat ( 4-blade ) it can be a spindle mount since I have a exhaust manifold on my mid-section... I'm kinda in a spot where I don't have loads of cash to spend so....... ( what I'm sayin is unemployment Sucks :( ) so if anyone has one drop me a line please ( thanks )

cool, I used a 28 pitch 3-blade chopper style and had a lot of slip and was still turning 7,500-7,700 rpm -58 mph on gps - not good. what kind of prices do you need out of each one ?

Wow! Thats a lot of prop and even more rpm for not much speed. What power are you running on what boat. The 3 blade chopper is a good go fast prop. Not great for cruising because they slip a lot at low speed because of the over hub exhaust design. Once over 40 it should hook up great. Are you sure you don't have a hub slipping?
$350.00 for either prop.

Lower your engine and keep that 28P.;)

From what I know I have a 1.87 gear ratio in the lower unit and it's the large shaft like the size of a Bravo out drive ..

Thanks MrBuzz for the info and it is slipping like hell........ the props I tested were all spindle mount from a Chopper. Merc Race, and Mazco all high dollar good condition props. My boat is set-up almost 100% the same a guss's boat except I have a bob's nose cone on mine. Same 6 in jack plate and everything my Reed set is vertical steel's instead of horizontal ( hopped up carbs )

There must be something else. How does the hub look? What boat, engine, p/s height are you running?

all have been spindle mount expenses props borrowed from a guy that races here in the fort and I have lowered it all the way - to having it 1/2 in below the v in the transom ( went the full range ) fresh rebuilt 1979-2.4 200-240 hp Black Max with 1989 wiring components , call it frankenstein cause I put all good parts together to make a better motor ** I'm not perfect I might have over looked something little** haven't added nitrous yet lol :) ** The boat is my 1979 Trimate-ll the twinn to Guss's boat ( my avitar )

I still dont know what hull you have. I guess it is a 17-19ft Diplomat or Tri-mate?
A half inch under the v seems a little high still. Also when you get your slip numbers down to were they need to be I dont think you will be able to turn anything bigger then a 28P.

It's a 1979 16ft Trimate ll Hull like Guss's boat I went from 1/2in to lowered all the way(same results )

Im suspitious of the nose cone, or something on the bottom of the boat is digging a trench in the water that the prop is spinning in. I presume the props you have tried work in other applications so we need to focus on your boat and motor. Have you verified that your tach is not lieing to you? They do that. Check the gear lube, do you have metal filings in the lube? Can you borrow some ones stock lower unit and see if that works? A Trimate with a 200 should run a reasonable rpm with a 24 " aluminum stock prop. Some thing is sliping or lieing to you.

hubs were fine, tested tack with a ( tach-test light ) the bobs has a 3/4 in hose off the side that goes from the cone to the inlet-- but other guys run it with no problems ( the hull is clean ( if you wanted to see the hose I'm talking about you can go to Bob'sMachine.com I think. ) ( I'm frustrated with it all )

I should be going a lot faster than 58, ( I'll get it straightened out sooner or later ) I can throw a nice 40ft tall 70 ft long rooster tail )

Houston We Have A Problem...

I think we found part of your slip problem. You must have that baby way to trimmed out to throw a Rooster Tail that high!:yell:

Your top end will likely go up if you ease up on the trim.

Some suggest a rooster that is no higher than the top of the motor. I have not experienced my best speed at that height rooster, but I am not finished playing with my setup yet either.

Good luck.
