my skimate is outta paint!!! so its time for rigging, and powerplant ..

a recap on the boat... had the o'b guys modify my 225, flipped the boat, had it reworked.. got dropped out of a travel lift, (after paint), and just now got out of a major o/h.. (again)

added a 12 in pad, and included a reverse corner chine.. and added 98 lbs to the bow. full 2" stringers fore to aft, and stiffinig gussets, and re inforced the forward bulkhead and deck..

I plan on running in the 300 to 325 hp.. (i flipped at 275ish).. how far do you thing i should start at my setback?? <<< be easy on me.. am an inboard guy...:eyecrazy:

Definatley sounds like a boat id like to see pics of myself. From the sounds of it im guessing 10" setback myself, but im not sure on that hull myself but im sure others will be.Does that hull handle like a starflite? Seems to be a bit different, I dont think many have chimed in here with skimate's with that type of power that I have seen should be fun. Good luck ,Aaron

I'll work on those pics.. and the boat actually handles quite well.. well it did anyway, going to be working on the rigging today afterwork.. I don't know how far i'll get with it.. but should be close to hanging the engine, going to start with a 12 in set back... see how that goes..

Did you do anything to the transom whie ya had it all apart? A question Im a bit confued on is why ya added weight to the bow, I know on my starflite ive done all all i can to keep a weight to a mininum. If ya plan on running a 300hp motor I would think you would be better off with a bit less the 12 inches of setback and keeping the 98 pounds out of the bow. Seems like the 98 pounds of bow weight will conteract the benifit of the setback. But then again im not sure on that hull. Where are those pics:) Aaron

i added the weight to the front to assist keeping the front down.. one issure i had was keeping stable , so at first, added 18 gals of fueil forward, that helped.. then i added a wedge, 18degrees.. that helped.. i could push 72 mph in nothing flat.. so i pushed some more.. hit maybe a 2ft wake.. the nose lifted and i was over..

that was long ago

today, running 12 in back.. had a rough ride until about 65, was a tad violent, with chinewalk steered thu that, and my #s are 12 in back from pad ( scaled -10 to +10 on the jack plate was -2_ ) and those numbers calced thu hull centerline. had 91 mph @5700 gps.

so the 10 inch setback is probably right.. am going to do some other changes too.. i'm going to have to relive the reverse chines, (dont know how yet) i should turn 7500 rpm

i am sending the engine to dyno.. for affirimative #s, and i've never been into drag races,,,, but if i can get this lil gal right.. we are going.. !!

Wow I would of never thought that hull was capable of those numbers. Lets get those pics im sure others are dying to see them as well. What prop are running? Aaron

original transom width was 3/4 in, and had a 2 by 4 across the center section of the transom.. and ran port and stbd. it is now almost 3 inches.. it is also reinforeced with gussets and 2" stringers aft/fwd. and yes they go all the way fwd.. i also added reverse chines which now we are going to relive, added a 12 in pad,,and reinforced the bow..

the bow is so unique... it has a natural lift. and that is the tough thing the lift, is so increadable.

i think this hull design was lost somewhere

<<< a bad habit i have.. i'll never give out prop *s,,, <<<<

the transom is modified to 2" the original transom was 3/4' with a 2x4 band cut from port to stb. which was run horizontal across the beam..

engine dynoed out at 338... and now spinin a labbed 36.. and i am having problems keeping the bow down above 70, got some really nasty chine walk until around 80, then she is airborn.. nothing but the prop in the water

now i'm throwing around the idea of counter rotator.. any thoughts...

my hull weight is right at 600 or less... 2 of us old men can flip it over by itself
engine wieghs 360
fuel 25 gals

best top speed 91.887
