76 merc 65h

76 CHECK

New member
i have a 76 v mate 1 iam getting about 30 mph is this normal out of a 76 merc 65hp outboard motor at about 4500 5000 rpms

A little more info....What's it propped with? Those 3 cylinder 65hp Mercs weren't the strongest motors so you'll have to really work hard on your set-up to wring every last ounce of power from that engine.

Not sure of the prop its old everytime i got to look for a prop i can never find one do u have any suggestions on a prop

Prop

76Check, I have a nice prop for the small gear-case Merc but I don't know if a 65 could spin it ( 22 pitch )

They switched in 72. First year all the Mercs got the blue stripes instead of the red. Also that 3cyl 65 hp has a smaller gearcase than the 71 did. It's basically the same size as the 50 hp.

As far as swinging that 22 pitch without knowing what's on there now it's anybody's guess. My gut say's it's a bit much.
