merc did not make a 135 in '79. they made inline 115hp and 140hp. 135 was early 70's

1987 2.0 135 V6

Mose, I had a 135 that came on my Sportsfire. It was a 1987 so eight years newer than the one your asking about. It was a very reliable carb motor. I installed a Lite-weight fly wheel and a Bob's LWP lower just to try and squeeze a little more top-end speed. It was a northern motor ( New York ) so in very nice condition for its age ( I got it in 2007 ) I did have to replace the Tilt/Trim unit but it had even 110 to 105 compression across all 6 cyl's. It would push my Sportsfire to near 55 mph on a good day. I think it would be a great starter motor on an:surf: Enticer or Predictor but you would soon be trying to spin it up to 8 Grand and end up making an anchor out of it. You know the old saying " There is no Replacment for Displacment " If your buying a mota try and get a 2.4 or 2.5 because they just don't weigh enough more to make a difference. My Sportsfire didn't sit any different in the water when I replaced my 2.0 135 with a 2.4 200. I don't have to tell you which mota was the most fun.
