81 Enticer overhaul in progress

I was on this site about 2 years ago under a different name(pkevcon), but have since forgotten my log in and changed emails. To top it off I moved from New Hampshire to North Carolina. Was able to go back up north to grab the Enticer and now I am finally getting down to business. I will be doing a complete overhaul on an 81 Enticer. The top is off right now, the floor and all those cheap #$$ boxes have been removed and the foam finally taken to the dump. Just like everyone else's foam, it was soaked and everything was rotted. After this weekend, the transom is ripped out, and it came out in one piece... Thank you lord.... My next step will be to start gutting the core. I can see plenty af dark spots in the entire floor so its safe to assume that I will be cutting the entire core out... Pictures and updates are soon to follow...Love this site by the way....

First and foremost... if you are going to remove the core, make sure the hull is supported correctly, or you will end up distorting the hull during the rebuild. A few others here have run into the same problem. Build a cradle to support the hull during this process.

Here is a link to a great setup for a cradle.

Thanks paulsboats, I will be doing some work this weekend as long as the weather stays like it is now. Its been pretty cool so hopfully it holds. I should have some updates on monday as well as some updated photos.

Some progress made

I have been able to remove the lid finally. Pulling the rub rail off was a chore to say the least. Rivets came out hard of course, but they are out. Hull was pretty easy to seperate, just a putty knife and some muscle. I was surprised to accomplish this without inflicting to much damage.

All the boxes have been removed and finally got all the foam out. Still need to do some clean up and sanding on the deck.

I got the transom out, in one piece. Definately wet but it held together better than I imagined. The wood seperated with ease.

Just a quick before and after...

So, My next step will be to cut a small section of the core out back aft, maybe a couple feet so I can get the 3/4 ply cut out, new section of the aft core put in and glassed so I can get the lid back on. Then I will finish up the rest of the core. Still a long road ahead of me but it feels good to get some stuff done...

Looking for some advice

I am not a fan of the color of this boat. I know \its hard to see in these photos but its kinda of an off white/tan and the brown metal flake. I am trying to decide if I should try to sand it out and buff it up or try to roll and tip it a new color. I have read some interesting articles on the interlux paints. I am thinking a may want to try that method eventually but thinking if I sand and buff this pig out, it may get me in the water sooner and cheaper...
Help me out...

In order of preference:

  1. Sand and buff
  2. Spray
  3. or get a Xanax prescription before you roll and tip
