'87 200 HP OMC looper missing

Right now it's sitting in the Lagoon at South Higgins and I was super miffed yesterday, but today it seems to be smoothing out. I've been chasing this gremlin since I bought it. Will run fine @ 6200 but will periodically start cutting out - I thought it was one cylinder but all of the plugs looked the same. RPM drops to 4500 when it's acting up.

Last week I tested all of the ignition coils, checked all connections and found some corrosion on the portside top cyl coil primary connection (noting that the plug WAS a little bit darker, or maybe it was wishful thinking) but after cleaning it up, no difference.

I pulled both the power packs, noticing that one was stock, one was a CDI replacement, and both look pretty melty. Going to take a timing light out tomorrow and see if I can find one cyl that's the prob, then check the timing base and maybe swap in a new power pack if I can find one.

All cyls compression test @ ~98 psi +/- 2, so I'm not TOO worried yet.

It idles for sh*t also, but that's pretty much every outboard I've ever owned.

Gotta stop buying used and abused crap.

Up here all week if someone wants to see what an abused Starflite looks like. You can almost write with your finger on the chalky top. I aqua-buffed it last year but it looked horrible in about a month despite wax applications.

argh:brickwall:
