I got recommended to this forum from S&F as i was told that you guys are the all knowing in the world of Checkmates!

I am from north west Indiana ish and just bought a 91 Pulse 210 BR with an 03 250 Yamy VMax on it. The boat is in pretty good condition and overall im very happy with it!! It runs like a champ but is in need of some setup work im pretty sure.

Any advice on setup would be greatly appreciated as id like to get the most i can out of this setup. It currently has a 10" setback manual jack plate on it and i took it to the water this afternoon as it was when i bought it. It ran 66 mph on gps at a hair over 6k rpm with a 23 pitch prop. By the manual on the motor that is out of the wot rpm range so im sure there is more to be had. I also think the motor is set a little low but with a stock case im not sure how much up i can go before i run out of water!

Thanks in advance for any advise and now for a little teaser pic! Ill have to get more when i get it back out and cleaned up.

Not any good ones really. Ill try to get some next time i get it out which will hopefully be soon since we are having an amazing march here!

welcome!
ive got the same boat and am working on the setup this year. i have a 03 with a 225efi merc on it (3.0L), with the motor on the transom i was getting 64 gps. i saw 67 once but that was downstream on the mississippi so i had a 3mph tailwind so to speak!

over the winter i have added a 10" hyd plate but havent messed with the setup to see where the boat likes it. i will post here when i do!! my lower unit has both lwp and the upper ones and i have been told it can run with the upper out of the water because at top speed it will have no issue with water getting up there. i will monitor it with my water press guage to be sure.

i would love to hear more about yours.

currently i cannot load pics but i can send some. good luck and keep me posted if you raise it and see some good results.

nice boat by the way!!

where are you setup now with reference to prop shaft verses the bottom of the boat?

i have not found alot of info on this particular hull, but i think it rides great for an all around hull, not the fastest but no slouch really.

Hey man, welcome aboard! Keep us informed if we can help and post pics as it happens.

Thanks for the complements everyone! Im pretty happy with it so far. Not to sure bout owning a yammy yet as i have always been a merc kid but the price was right for what i got!

As for height i have not put a stick on it to know for sure but the prop shaft is a good 3-5" below the pad as it sits i think. I can trim it to the moon with no blow out and still carry 15-18 psi of water pressure with just the stock upper pickups. We will see what it does with more prop n then start raising it up with hopes of going north of 70 with a moderate load on board!

Welcome to the forum. A little trick you can do also is plug the top two holes on both sides of the water untamed to be able to run a little bit higher prop height. I also think you might be a little under propped for a 250 on a 21. Good luck with the setup

Thanks again!

I agree on the under propped. I am looking into borowing some bigger stuff to see where ill need to be before i spend the big money on one. Also on the pickup holes the yammy has the plastic inserts in them and i know that at one point merc made some that the top holes were blocked and the bottom ones were larger to allow good water flow. Does anyone know if there is anything like this available for the yammy?

I don't know if these will work on a yammy, but I bought water scoops for my merc.

Well after some crappy weather in these parts I got antsy an put her it the water yesterday afternoon for a trial with a old style 26 Trophy. By far the best speeds it has ran so far! Went 72 on gps at right around 5800 rpm. With 2 people in the boat it ran great. With me alone it would start walking pretty bad. Raised the motor up about an inch and that helped a little but still needs some work! Would like to try a new style 27 Trophy and a yammy T1 before I buy a new one. But we will see.
