anything I can do for less smoke!

Maybe I am getting older just wondering if anyone has recommendations for less smoke! I enjoy putting around at night and relaxing but my engine seems to smoke! Are oil injection systems adjustable maybe it is set rich? I am using merc oil is there a better oil low smoke? I have even thought of getting a 4 stroke but really do not want to spend the money I love my boat! thanks

I've adjusted a few Merc V6 oil injections. In fact, its something that does go out of adjustment, and should be checked every year. I once saw one that was running backwards!! (the wheel that is). Fortunately, with the 'wheel' running backwards, the motor was at full oil mix all the time so no damage was done.

Anyway, move your throttle from idle to WOT and watch the wheel or disk. the mark on the block should point to one line at WOT and one line at idle. Make sure it's spinning the right direction!

For less smoke, the higher cost Evinrude oils (XD50 and XD100) claim less smoke, so check the mercury bottles and see what they say.

One other thing to think about, are you putting around with the engine trimmed all the way down? If you are, try trimming the motor straight up and down so that the exhaust relief is not buried and the smoke problem will go away! boatman

thanks guy's great advise! I am running with the trim alittle up to keep the exaust out which helps! and Mark the boat is running good otherwise aside from the hair from algae on it witch will be cleaned next week! the jack plate worked awsome! still need to fine tune it alittle! I just won a Gps so I am going to try it out and see how she fair's I get alittle bit of chine walk at top end wich tells me my boat is out of the water and one of my friend's said he thought I got a bigger motor because it looked like a different boat and he said it was moving! thanks I will try to adjust it and see if it makes a difference!
