I have just replace my tired 330 with a biult 330 from jasper.the problem i'm having is the new motor will not run over 4400 rpm. it was showing lean the first time out so i decided to get rid of the q-jet ahd installed a 850 holley a friend had. i know the holley is a little big i just figured on rejetting it.after the carb change it still showed a little lean with original jets in carb. so i cleaned and checket the fuel system. replaced fuel pump and filter.ran it again still wot 4400 and the plugs are showing color with a little carbon. timing is advancing to 32 degrees at 3800 rpm's. in nutural motor will spin to 5000. have a 25 3 blade with a 1.65 out drive. new motor is 370 hp ??? ANY IDEAS ??

You are seriously donw on power. You should be spinning alot more than that with a 1.65 drive and a 25" 3 blade prop. Your problem could be any number of things. Your timing is a bit low, but I dont want you to advance it unless you are getting good color on your plugs. What is your fuel system? Can you describe it from tank to carb? Can you post a close up picture of your plug? Include a few differnt angles, if you can.

since we have little go with but 330, its a flat tappet same ol same ole 454, which its rpm range is 44 - 4800. i have delt with jasper, and you get what you order, and according to my sheet, there is no 370 hp 454 advertised for sale to dealers.. (marine) truck and cars may be different

at 4400 with a 1.65 gear ration your in the ball park. what drive are you running??

here is an argument comming, but i m gonna say it anyway.. that quad will run and out run that 850, and give you better overall perforrmace than that holly. assuming that it is set up right.. and that holly will run like crap too, if not set up right.. so if either one of em wasn't in tune with the engine, you wasted a gasket swapping them out.

whats your fuel pick up tube, and fuel line shape look like..

what is your fuel pressure, and vaccume?

the motor i got from jasper is a class 2 performance built engine. it has roller cam and lifters and has a power curve of up to 5000. with that said i finally figured out the problem was the intake. put a new edelbrock on it and am good to go. i guess the old one has an internal crack and was sucking air from inside the engine.as far as the carb goes i will never find out because the holley is staying. i know how to tune them. thanks for your time in trying to help.
