so it could be just me but i'm guessing not.......i don't think i could ever own another brand of boat again....i just love checkmates!! figure with all this bajamate stuff this would be a good topic to start on how much we love our checkmates!!!

I am on number 3. Like the older ones, not sure about the new ones, but that doesnt matter, I cant afford a new one.

I feel the style is unmatched. They are one of the only performance/family boats still around. I mean look at the Pulsare, you can break 80 MPH and still carry 4 passengers for waaay less than the comp.

I have owned mine for almost 3 years now and only drove it for about 1 hour total I have seen it sit in my driveway for way to long. Yet I still don't think I would buy anything else. You cant beat how good a mate looks in a driveway over anything else.

hey WIZ you have a great looking boat. have you put any thought to cutting the wind shield down? Take it all apart and make it look like this..........

This was the same size as yours.

I have some ideas on getting a new one made that is tinted maybe mirror finished not sure yet but it is in my mile long list of stuff to do. 1. get boat running and install a floor! 2. other crap.

I love my Checkmate! This makes me 6. 3 Pulsare 2100's (2LD's and 1 BR) and 2 Pulsare 2000 BR's, and now the Enforcer. I have owned or driven at least 2 dozen different brands and I would never go back to any of them. Some were pretty good boats, but didn't come close to a Checkmate. I have never gotten rid of a Checkmate because I didn't like it. The only reason I got rid of my last 2000 Pulsare was the fact that with age starting to take it's toll and 5 herniated disc in my back, I needed a bigger boat capable of taking on the rough a$$ water at our local lake without ending up in a wheel chair. If I could afford it, I would have a new 2400 in the driveway right now. But I have no complaints with the 1983 model. It is a great boat. It reminds me of driving a stretched out 2100 with a better ride. :cheers:boatman

make mine a Checkmate - baja blows

late 80's and early to mid 90's Checkmates rule!! IMHO.

I have owned 5 boats in my time on earth so far, and
right now, unless something bad happens to it, I can
see my 251 being my last. Is perfect for the type of
boating we do - only thing I might do is make it faster!:bigthumb:

i knew there would be some good responses here, i'm on #4 myself. my wife thinks im crazy that i get excited when i see another up for sale on craigslist or something!

For me, it doesn't get any better than this. I love my latest Checkmate. This is my 4th new Checkmate (2007 Pulsare 2100 LD w/ 2005 300X - last of the Bill Combs boats)

I totally agree i own a 98 251 that they came back out with for a last classic edition. I talked to mike at cm and he said those molds are gone totally, they have trashed them. in 98 he said they only made a handful of them, he said some where around 18 of them. these boats are great, not only are they the first offshore boat they made. they are one and in my opinion still the fastest hulls in the 25' range. they ride great in calm or rough ocean water. i take mine to ocean city md. ounce a year and i have a blast! they have great room for their size also. i have a mild 540ci in mine and on a good day she will run 82 and at that speed i can take my hands off the wheel and its no different than running 40mph, it handles great!! what motor is currently in your beauty?

Good post, TT, I couldn't agree more!! I am looking forwad to pushing 80
in my 'mate in the near future, but for now I run 65. I have a just rebuilt
454mag with many performance upgrades, and possibly soon to be blown!
That, or what has been suggested I do, build a bigger horsepower motor
to drop in and keep my 454 as a back up for when I blow up the new one.
But regardless of what speed we are travelling, it is the perfect boat for
the wife and I and our weekends on the water all summer long!:thumb:

i think i made a comment on your engine cituation a couple of days ago. i believe i said i would build one and keep the 454 as a spare or what ever. its not that i dont like blowers, i would love to have one on mine, but for one i would have to cut out the engine hatch to make it fit and my wife would be upset if i did because that is her domain for sunbathing and entertaining. so i dont want to piss her off! second, i have friends with blowers and its almost like you either have to go small or big and the ones that go big are always turning wrenches to keep the blowers tight and one guy had almost a $10,000 all aluminum block and put a rod through it at 120mph he said he about sh^* himself. so im all for blowers, just build one that best suits your driving habits and make sure the bottom end is built for it and you just dont throw one on the top and away you go.and remember there is nothing like cubic inches!hahahahahaha just my $.02, for what its worth. good luck with your decision.

Dogschool
I know how much you love your boat but aren't you just a little jealous of mine?

lol...only when I am out of beer and there is plenty on your boat..
and I love looking at your boat in my rear view mirror cuz that's
where it is most of the time..(unless I'm docked):rof:

Yeah, the engine hatch is a must, the party wouldn't be the same without
it! I appreciate the input, tt, your advice is good advice! I'll probably stand
pat for now but by the end of summer something will be brewing under the
hatch, one way or another;)!

Hey coop and 81, you won't regret a 251 if you go that route!
Best for all around boating (if you can stand skiing on hard h20).
I have seen a couple 251's where I didn't like the cuddy setup
but the setup in mine and most other 251's are the same and great,
sleeping area plenty big and the seating area is more than adequate
in the cuddy as well. I'll have to ask Kip how many different layouts
were used in the 251 cuddy's in the late 80's into the 90's. Since
the molds are the same can I assume the 253's cuddy is comparable?
