Black Boats..

Ok guys just looking for opinions. Looking for first hand experience with solid black to mostly black gel coat boats. Pros, cons, how hot are they on a 95 degree sunny afternoon, and any other thoughts. How hard are they to keep clean compared to white or red. How often would one want to wax them to keep there color for years to come (2 times a summer, 2 times a month, every time its out in the sun for a day). Just researching as I tend to like to do for things that I will probably never actually by.

All of the black trim lines on my boat's coat will burn my feet when sun is on them for a decent period of time in any average summer temperature. I would expect an entire black coat would be quite hot.

I had a solid black Starflite, and it wasn't as bad as you would think. Did it get hot? Yes. But to me, how it looked made it worth it. I had black carpet and everything, but the use of an anchorshade/bimini tamed that down a lot. Cruising down the lake it wasn't any different than my white Convincor. Now yes, I was constantly wiping the boat down getting rid of water spots, but I am OCD when it comes to that stuff so I still do the same thing with my white Convincor, I constantly have my absorber in my hands.

In summary, I love how a black boat looks and I would have no hesitation in buying one again.

Used a lot of towels on the seats and floor and enjoyed the extra heat in Michigan cool weather

The guy that owned the Black 283 for sale @ pier 57 said it wasn't too bad. But, I have dk grey pirelli flooring in my Convincor and it gets HOT. I usually throw a wet towel down to walk on.

Thread is fixed! I had a black Pulse170 with red carpet, love the looks of it. Yeah it gets hot, but so do all the other colors especially down here in Charleston SC. I found it's easier to keep clean as oppose to a white boat, only problem is black shows scratches easier.

They look really nice but just the black stripes on my old 235 interior would light you up even way up here in Michigan. I am very attracted to the black 253 with the extreme flame job. Other than the Punisher the black and flamed 253 is my favorite Checkmate I have seen .

they get hot. pulling an anchor or reaching over to the dock will light you up! not hard to keep clean, we wash it and dry it before putting the cover on. i do know that a dry towel on a well polished, smooth fiberglass can make for some interesting dance moves...or major ass busting.

I'll never own another one, Once black goes bad there's really no getting it back! Out in Lake Havasue, The splashes would sissle on the deck and leave terrible rings.

never had a all black one but had 2 with black sections that both spider cracked bad in the black area's only, they were not checkmates, but when we are doing graphics ob anything dark they show WAY higher temps wit a IR gun and we have to keep cool to install

I have a black Starflite with black carpeting. Love the look but hot as hell. I have to boat thru some no wake zones and it can be brutal. Last year I finally decided to get a bimini, but never put it on, I just can't bear to see it with a roof. In the meantime, I sold my white Enchanter with white seats (never felt the heat) and picked up Sim's DARK BROWN Starliner. Looks cool, but also hot as hell. I guess I'll be wearing lots of hats this summer......

My old boat. I never had a problem with heat or keeping it clean. Every time i pulled it out I'd wipe it down with boat bling hot sauce. Its slightly acidic so it will eat water spots quickly and the spray was in it kept it shiny between real wax. I owned it for two season and never had anyone complain. The interior piping was black too.

I will second that. Gotta keep that carpet wet.

You trying to rot my floor out? :)

I got a relatively small bimini top then cut the frame to shorten it as much as easily possible and it doesn't look too bad. I mainly use it if we anchor at the sandbar or if it's really hot we'll use it in the no wake zone we have to go through to get out to the lake.

I think a bimini top looks a little dorky but I know we will love it rafted up at the lake.

I wouldn't have put it on if the mounts weren't already there.
