First off, I'm new to the site as a member but I have been reading some stuff as a guest every once in a while. So I work at a family marina in northern Ontario and basically cottaged up here for the summers before we took over the marina. I have always loved boating, atvs and snowmobiles and have rarely found places like muskoka to do so. When I turned about 15 (pre-marina days) my dad talked to the old owner about a boat for me to tour the lakes. The old owner told my dad about a little 15 ft boat he had out back. Sure enough, near my birthday I was shown a nice orange flecked Checkmate MX-15... Fell in love instantly. Took it for the first test ride that day and had it at the dock same day.

It's a fun boat to cruise and play around in. The motor that has been on it (I believe a 1976 70 merc) started having issues 3 to 4 summers ago and I didn't have money to repair it because teenaged me wanted to party and what not. So recently, after staring at my boat in a storage loft I had an itch to get it out, cleaned and running. With 2/3 complete, getting this boat running is what I'm trying to do. Currently looking for a similar motor with trim. Since I have been checking these forums out lately it drove me to get going and start fixing it up.

I hope to learn a bit more, hear some cool stories and get some possible ideas when I start to refurbish my checkmate.
