Confused

Hey guys, since I'm canadian, I've been away from boating for a few months, but spring is coming and I've been going to boat shows, asking Merc reps about props, and I'm more and more confused.

From reading multiple posts, it seems like a trophy plus is best for my setup(2100 w/300x 1.62 sport master). It sounds like guys are running very high pitches with lower HPs. The prop that came with the boat is a tempest 23p. Without plugging the ports, it cavitates, plugging them makes it lug. I'm now somewhere in between and it's ok out of the hole. I topped it close to 80 with 6500RPM, the boat is still accelerating, but start chine walking, so I let off the gas. The placard on the motor says 6800rpm.

Now I'm trying to figure out the pitch for my new prop. Should I stick around the lower pitches, or go with something higher? Are speeds vs rpms very different when you change prop model? Anyways just looking for your best guess. I'm trying to figure out why some get those speeds with 27p, different gears perhaps. I don't want to buy the wrong prop. thanks in advance.

Most that are getting that kind of speed with higher pitch props have 1:75 lower units. I'm currently running a 1996 21 Pulsare BR 26 trophy 250XS 1:75 torque master lower 12" of set back for 79mph top so far

l'd start with a 26p Trophy Plus for a baseline... After you learn to drive through the chine and see where you are full throttle vs RPMs you can send the prop to get worked a bit to pick up our drop a few hundred RPMs and you'll be set..... Haulin a$$ too!

Bacon, don't mean to hijack the thread but I've gotta ask; Is that really your name.
Man, I thought my parents were cruel with Sim but yours put em to shame.

That rig is going to require a lot more setup experimentation than some.

However the Tempest is a chine walker. Not a fan. But you should still work on the setup first and get a proper rpm baseline. That rig needs to have the motor run very high, as in prop shaft even with the pad. If you trim too much with any prop you get walk.

If you are even with the pad with little trim and still at 6500 rpm, then a 23 is about right. The Trophy has been the go to prop but some have had good success with the Rev 4 at high prop heights.

Your elevation may be a factor too. Those of us that boat at over 1000' will never get the same speeds as those at sea level.

Sim, bacon is not my name. Thanks for the input guys, I think I will start with 26,and see what that gives me. And I do need to learn how to drive it, honestly, it's the first machine I own that scares me a little, chine walking at 80 is scary ****!
