Engine Monitor Alarm Sounding?

InCheck04

New member
Guys,
Was out the other day and the Engine Monitor Alarm went off on my 2004 Johnson 115 V4 Looper (J115PLSRC). The system check goes on when you first turn the key to the "on position" and the gauge lights up in sequence starting from the bottom and works its way up on the indicators. This is normal according to the manual.

Then as the motor is running I get a beep every couple of minutes and the gauge lights up again in sequence again from the bottom up with none of the indicating lights staying on? It seems to happen at idle speeds only, under 1500 rpm. It seems as it is doing the system check again and again?

The 2 stroke oil tank is half full, the motoring is peeing out the back and the motor will rev past 5500 rpm. At one point the trim stopped working as well as the tach then started working again with no problems?

Thoughts?

Thanks guys for any help!

My new to me 08 Merc O/B started beeping while I was on Vacation away from the owners manual. So I googled the beep patterns for Merc and got the answer. I'd try that if I was you, but there are a few guys here with e-tecs so one of them may know. Good luck

Did you get your alarm diagnosed? Your manual will tell the sequence of beeps. I have an 87 140hp. I believe the low oil tank is a 20 sec beep. (Correct, the alarm will sound at 1/4 tank level.) I had to unhook the tank sender because it would start the beep for no reason, (tank full) Beat on the sender to stop it and it comes back. Float was ok. No oil flow- short beeps. Overheat- constant beeps. 88 and newer will cut the RPMs to half. Hope this helps.
