Fresh water cooling question

I am in the process of installing a fresh water cooled 350 in my 86 senator. I know it will ad weight, but, I want to use the boat a lot in salt water. so my question is... the motor is from a boat with a bravo 2 outdrive, there was a belt driven 3rd water pump apparently mounted on the motor (which I do not have). Does anybody know if the lower unit pump has enough brass to cool the heat exchanger, or will I have to put a 3rd pump on the boat somewhere? thanks in advance fo your guidance, Andy

yes with your alpha drive the drive pump will work fine with fresh water cooling, just be carefull on the exhaust manafolds, you can cool the in the fresh water or raw, there is a block off gasket between the manafold and riser and different hose routing..just make sure you keep it all strait, better off cooling the manafolds with the fresh water...Rob

as rob said you will not need an extra pump
bravos and trs drives do not have a water pump in the drive

make sure to check the hose routing on your new motor
the hose that went to the external pump will go though your power steering cooler from the transom plate

you should be able to buy the correct hose as alpha's are optional with fresh water cooling

how old is the motor you are istalling have the risers ever ben off

good luck daren

Thanks alot guys, I had looked in my clymer mercruiser book and it said optional on that pump I didnt think to look if the bravo had a pump just assumed that they all did. Thanks again Andy

FYI-
My alpha has the outdrive pump just cooling the outdrive. I have a bravo pump for the heat exchanger, and a coolant pump on the motor just like a car. My bravo pump picks up thru the hull via a brass cup, goes to the PS cooler, then up into the exchanger. My exhaust manifolds are full of coolant, and the risers get lake water and subsequently eject the water into the exhaust and back into the lake....
