Future checkmate owner?

Hey all I am Sam from Manhasset NY (Long Island)...great boating area! Great poker runs and great places to eat by boat! I am 17 years old, and will be 18 this summer.

I started boating with a 7ft dingy with an outboard. Then I moved up to a 13' Whaler (which got too slow for me) I am the current owner of a 13' Mini Hawk. That was a nice boat, but it eventually got boring and it became too small. I am in the process of restoring the whole boat. Once the weather warms up, I can get it painted and rigged, then sold.

I joined here in hopes of learning all I can about the 21' Starflite. I saw a beautiful yellow and black one, and that's all it took to get me interested in owning one this summer as my 4th boat. It would be a great boat for me, IMO!

-Hope to meet some of ya'll and become part of the Checkmate community!!

Live in Princeton, NJ now but was raised on the South Shore of the Island. Grew up lusting after Checkmates on White Lake, NY (Monticello) and our local Checkmate dealership in East Rockaway, not too far from you. Dealership is out of business. Everything from when I was young is out of business.
When I was going to StonyBrook a buddy of mine had a Starflite we used to buzz out of Port Jefferson and around the Sound. Got choppy. Real choppy.
When you're 20 the choppier the betterer. Specially if there's beer or broads involved.
And never forget...... If it flies, floats or f**cks it's cheaper to rent it.

The sound can get quite snotty, i've done a few poker runs and such on friends boats, and it is always rough the day of an event like that.

I asked about long island because I was wondering if there was anyone with a Starflite in the area that I can get a ride on and learn to handle, so when I buy mine in the summer, I know how they run and such.

If you want a ride in a Starliner (which is an open bow Starflite) you're welcome to come out for the day to Princeton (we cruise the Delaware to Philly a lot)-or I think in late April we're planning on meeting Jim P.with his Starflite and another Starliner at Greenwood Lake, NY.
I don't know anybody these days on the Island with a Check. For some reason I feel like I've seen a few on this board.

Hi Sim,

I'm just in the middle of purchasing a 1980 17' Enticer this week, living in Chatham (just moved over from Ireland with the family in January :bounce: ).

I'd be interested in meeting up at some point on the Delaware if possible.

I'm keen to taste some good rivers/lakes in the NJ/NY/PA areas now that I have a boat again (had to leave my old ski-boat in Ireland :pissed:).

Smoken Gun,
Come on over to Detroit when the weather breaks, I'll teach you what a starflite can do and what a starflite should not do! With 17 yrs and literally 1000's of hrs behind the wheel I'll show you everything from standing it on end to maneuvering around a crowded ramp with a snotty high idling race engine. And if the boating gods smile on us with just the right wind, I'll teach you my personal favorite. Running in 2 plus fts at 60+ wave top to wave top with the deck so straight and flat you can balance an egg on the tip of the bow!!!!!

And all I ask GrassHopper, is for you to buy my beer for me!

p.s. Bring your birth certificate all we'll take time to boat over to Canada and chase the chubby "but nicer than hell" canadian chicks too!

Thank's for the nice offers guys!! I appreciate the kindness!! If I can ever make it to your areas, I will let you know!
First of all, I would like to see a few different pictures of all the parts of the boat, like the interior front seats, back seats, under the bow, outside of the boat etc. I love the picture above! Wish that was mine!:D All I can do is drool over that beautiful boat!

Welcome!!! I absolutly LOVE my starflite!!! Rides surprisingly well in rough chop and has a good amount of room. Can't go wrong!!!! I'll try to find some pics for ya...

Here you go, Young Gun. Its all I have fit to print.

p.s. the mailbox pic was only a prototype. never got around to cleanin' it up and make a real one. But I think its Genius!

And for under the deck is anywhere from 6.5-7 ft deep with a vinyl pad and carpeted walls with open storage compartments all sides and a fuzzy finished ceiling and 2 courtesy lights. I'm 6'6" 275+(now) and I've spent 50 plus nites under there and sometimes I was even not alone.;)
Good luck in finding a solid starflight, Don't overpay because mostly any starflite while have issues!

That boat is sweet! Thanks, it gives me a good picture of what the different area of the boat look like. The Starflight would be a great boat for Manhasset Bay. It doesnt get too 1 to 2' chop in the outer bay. There isnt any other checkmate in the area, so i'd be the first sometime soon, once I get the Mini Hawk out. There are 2 other Mini Hawk's in the bay though, mine making it the 3rd
