I have an inline 6 merc 140 hp outboard, used in salt water and the reverse bearing is stuck and leaking, any ideas.

I can get a Merc inline 4, 65 hp both have the long shaft wondering if the would match.

The 65 horse lower will bolt up but I think it will be a 2:3-1 gear ratio. Not sure if they had different ratios on the 65. I know the 80 and 85 4cylinder were 2:3-1. Meaning you would have to use a prop of higher pitch to comensate for the difference.
