How much can I get for a new 300XS ?

I'm looking at a buying a Checkmate 2400BRX, but I don't need a motor. If I buy a complete boat (with motor), how much could I sell the engine for if it's a 300XS? Assuming it has next to zero hours and a full warranty (which I think is 2 years). I was thinking 16k.
How about a 250XS that has 1 year left of warranty? 12K?

For those that are wondering, I'd be putting a Verado on -- I never realized how much I liked a quiet motor until I drove one.

thanks,

So I'm assuming your talking a new boat. You can order one with out the motor and hang what ever you want on it with out having to worry about selling something.

I'd say about $3K....... I'll be there to pick it up next week!!!!

Seriously, in new condition I'd be thinking you would be giving someone a pretty good deal at 11-12k.

Yes I'm looking at new boats. I'd like to find a used one, but I haven't seen one all year. In an effort to save money I have found that buying something that's been on a dealer's lot for two years is significantly cheaper than ordering a new one at 2012 pricing... but that's assuming I can get good money for the engine.

They should just pull the motor off and sell it to you with whatever power you want. Not like it is hard to change an outboard......

Yes, I've obviously thought of that. One of them is at a dealer with a 250XS on it and they only want to take off 10K if I buy it without the motor. I guess the boats a demo and the motor had a problem... it now has a pacemaker powerplant.
The other is for sale more-or-less through a bank. That one's being sold all-or-nothing and it has a 300XS.
So I'm trying to decide which is the better deal... but in order to determine that I need to know the value of the 250XS (because I think the dealer is being stingy), and I need to know how much a 300XS could sell for.

thanks.

Your problem is nobody wants to give top dollar for a new engine from back yard joe. Think about it, would you trust a guy selling a brand new engine for only one to two grand less than a dealer that will help with a warranty claim.

Dont care what anybody says if you leave the lot with a new 300 its worth 3 grand less than you paid for it. Take you time and stop being in a rush to buy, you will only get screwed.

Exactly! I don't want to get screwed! So... how do I know if I'm getting screwed?... well... I need to know the value of these two motors.

Is the dealer that subtracts $10K by removing the 250XS screwing me?

And you estimate a 300XS drops 3 grand... is that 15k minus 3 grand, or is that 18k minus 3 grand, or something else?

I would think $10-12k for the 300xs if you bring it home and want a quick sale. Even if you do not run it, it will still be used in the buyers opinion like Red said. If the economy was not in the dumps like it is then you could get more IMO than that.

You and Red make good points. That changes my optimism a bit... at least for the one with the 300XS.
What about the one with a 250XS that the dealer is willing to remove. Shouldn't he remove more than 10k from the price? Thoughts?

Curious what $$ the bank wants for the boat w/300xs... I would think being bank owned, they would want to offload quickly and give a pretty good deal on it. Depending on details, I could probably find $10K for a new 300xs.

They want $45k. My goal is to be under 30k after selling the motor. It's sounding like the only way to get there is to buy from a dealer and have him subtract the value of the motor AND the profit he would've gotton off the motor.

So if anyone has any leads on a 2400BRX -- new or used -- for cheap I'd appreciate it. I've searched the sh** out of the internet, but not everything is well advertised or even on the internet. For example, here's one in Wisconsin (near me) that's not too far from my goal (and it's a 2011), but it's NOT on boattrader or anything else (I don't remember if that price includes the trailer).

did you call checkmate to see which dealer had inventory? i used to work for a sea ray dealer and we had to send in inventory reports every month, that way if a dealer was looking for a specific model they might find it at a nearby dealer. don't know if checkmate does that or not.

Have you talked to em and shot em a no b.s. offer? Nearing the end of the season... $45k sitting around for another year depreciating isn't good business if you can get out of it and still make a little $$$.

Yes I did. Kip had two that he knew about... both were about 10K above my goal. Since I'm not in a rush I'm holding out (I've been holding out for nearly a year now)... but we're past the peak buying season now so I'm upping my game... hoping that some real deals start popping up.

The terms were $45k, take it leave it. I don't know where it goes if I leave it.

Trying to save on just buying the boat, all to put on one of those $20K+ Verado's?? (including all the special rigging crap needed) I'd make a deal on one in inventory with a 300XS and save all around. It's rare to find one with a Verado as it just doesn't seem worth it.

The XS is arguably better on gas, just as fast, a million lbs lighter, etc. JMO

Good luck though, I'm sure everyone here would be excited to see it.

I have acquired an excellent deal on a Verado 250 and rigging. This will be a family boat and 100+ mile day trips will likely happen on the Winnebago Lake chain that's 10 minutes away from our house. I want quiet, smooth, and 87 octane... I can't be running out of gas 20 miles from home looking for premium. From what I've seen fuel economy is almost identical between the stratified 2-strokes (Opti/E-tec) and fuel injected 4-strokes. I should say they're almost identical at WOT... that's because both dump extra fuel to keep pistons, valves, ports, etc. cool. At cruise I think the stratified 2-strokes actually win because they are running so lean -- the beauty of stratification. The real way to get good fuel economy is to buy a light efficient hull that's designed for an outboard. Guess which family boat's going to be more fuel efficient at 45mph... a 2200 lb Checkmate or a 3700 lb Southwind deckboat? That's right... the one that's not at WFO. And from what I've read these 24' Checkmates should handle some chop quite nicely... I assuming much better than ANY deckboat (even ones with 20 deg of deadrise like Southwind and Azure -- most deckboats have 14 to 16 deg of deadrise).
So I'm now looking for the best deal I can get on the boat that's right for my family, and asking for advise from people that know Checkmates. It might not be as fun as making the fastest Checkmate possible, but I'd rather be on the water going 10mph slower, than to have a boat that sits in the garage because the wife or kids don't like boating because it's too noisy, or they had a bad experience when dad was going too fast, or whatever.
I'm even considering a wakeboard tower.
