Hyrdo jack plate AND static set back?

Hi guys, I tore into my 89 starflite and dodged the transom rot bullet. That is the good news...I am in to process of adding hyrdo steering for the (next year) 250, and setting up the set back.

I currently have a CMC hydro jack plate with 5.5" of set back, and want to add about 8" more. Question for all you experts, is my mechanic a total weiner, or can I not stack a CMC jackplate on a Bobs 8" static set back plate? If so, in what order? Obviously, I have no clue...so any hints will be helpful!

I havr read that if you do this you should put the static plate on the transom and the adjustable on the static. If you don't have the transom beefed up with better knees you are asking for trouble with 13 inches of set back.

What he said: transom, static setback, adjustable plate, motor.

Hi John,

Thank you for the quick reply. I am heading down that road right now.

The floor is out, and a couple of the stringers were bad, so that is getting fixed. My plan, after reading as much as I could, is to put in new beefier knees tied to the bottom, stringers and floor, Then install both a large internal and external aluminum transom plate made. I plan on fabricating the internal plate to include a couple of large 90 degree tabs that will allow me to bolt the internal aluminum plate to the new HD knees.

It should be totally over engineered, since I am planning on 250....but an evil lil voice  in the back of my head is shouting 300

So it's a static to the transom it is. Thank you!

if you do the whole project at once your all good.

just remember, if you do the hydro steering now and add the 8" plate later, account for that in your steering lines.

otherwise it all sounds good to me!! throw some project photos up here so we can all drool a little bit!!

Like this. Static or manual plate on boat and hyd on top of it.

Make sure you are certain the transom is strong enough. ;) That top lip will pull away from the boat if its not.
