Insurance

Anyone know of a company that will insure for 4-5 months on the water if you store the boat the rest of the year? I know some classic cars are insured this way. Have locked in with home owners and auto to "bring the cost down" but I'm still at $122 a month just for the boat :( Any info would be great!

I'm using progressive. I don't know my rate off the top of my head, but I do store my boat 1/2 the year.

I have esurance for my boat. They are really good. My big convincor was $480 for the whole year...even with my bad driving record.

Cover the boat all year. Home owners will not cover your boat any day any time, it does not matter if you park it in your kitchen.

What if something happened while being stored. If your going to take a chance and let the boat sit 7 months out of the year with out insurance why bother even getting any at all.

Thats crazy, I have State Farm, they insure all my stuff, house, cars, and boat. The boat policy costs me just over $100.00 a year. Its pretty cheap.

Makes no difference if the boat is in the water or the garage, insurance is the same.

That is crazy, I pay $19.00 a month for the boat through SGI (saskatchewan government insurance)

Tracy, are you talking about a seasonal policy? I had one like that on my snowmobiles, I think they called it a in storage policy, it was only 50 bucks per sled for 3 months, it would cover stuff like fire, theft, storm, vandalism.
but would not cover anything that might happen while using or transporting the sleds.
During the winter it was around 200 per sled for 3 months.
I never even thought to ask about this type of policy for the boat because the regular one is so cheap.

i use Auto Owners insurance company out of michigan. rates are/were excellent. i believe most companies account for storage periods, they all have asked me how long the season is for me, do i trailer the boat any great distances etc.

i paid like 480 a year for mine......not now.........i dont own a boat again yet!! sad!!

122 a month is way out of wack, I ran full coverage on my boat and payed on a stated value of 35 grand and 4 grand on the trailer. It was around 605 a year. Allstate

250 a year Foremost. Whether I'm boating, trailering or a tree falls on it in the driveway.

Ya, you need to do some checkin cuz mine is considerably cheaper than that too and I live relatively close to you (I am assuming) in southern Illinois.

Most companies take into consideration the length of your boating season. So your rates should/will reflect that already.

$112 a year with State Farm. Includes roadside assistance/towing, $500 deductible & thats with it over-insured a little.

I pay $240.00 per year with Progressive with an agreed value of $20000.00 and have trailer coverage as well as towing on and off the water. And $5000.00 contents with a $200.00 deductible. When we bought our convincor in 2008, we were paying $603.00 per year but it has gone down every year with the same company. For a few extra bucks, i like to know that my baby is well insured and i sleep good at night!

1400 bucks a year for a 1972 boat that they probably wouldn't even total for 6,000? In Illinois?
That's the most outrageous thing I've ever heard insurance-wise.
Maybe if you had a $100,000 boat in downtown Thailand!
Man, time for a new insurance carrier.
I pay less than $200 for my boat with liability and full comprehensive including water and roadside breakdown in NEW JERSEY- the biggest bend-me-over insurance state in the nation.
Shop around my friend, shop around. I use Foremost. They dropped my rates even further this year for not killing myself or anyone else. A tradition I have every intention of continuing.
