Just got home from a weekend at the lake....

with my Starflite........

with a V8 Evinrude hanging off the transom.......

built by Evolution Marine pumping out somewhere around 425hp.

This thing is a beast and it sounds incredible. I apologize for the poor vid quality but I don't feel like messing with it right now. I'm off to bed, enjoy folks.

That sounds awesome ! Are you still on breakin time ? What kind of prop are you running ? After breakin and seat time we need some more videos of that beast ! You'll probably have to shoot from your boat. I don't think anything else will keep up :eyecrazy:

Good Luck and keep us posted with results !

WOW! That almost seems insane.

This is the true definition of a "HOTROD BOAT!" Take the biggest HP engine you can and place it in as small a vehicle as posible. Very impressive, let us know what kind of chine walking you do at 90+.

No numbers yet, I actually disconnected the speedo so I wouldn't be tempted to push things on the first outing.

The motor is used (no breakin time needed), I bought it from Keith Lockliear over at ScreamAndFly. He and his father are big OMC V8 guys, his father had a 3.6 on his Starflite back in the day, they are helping me with setup tips which is very nice of them.

I didn't get past the usual 65mph chine, I let off each time I reched it (which is the end of every blast in the video) and boy does it reach 65 in a hurry.

I am running the largest prop I have for my V6 which is 24 pitch 14.5" 3-blade Raker......it's way too small. If I open it up at around 3000 it shoots straight to 6000 before the prop gets a bite in the water.

Back to work, I'll answer more questions later.

Thanks for the replies guys, this thing is unbelievable!

awesome! this is the motor this boat was made for, sounds really nice, with 400 hp you should be able to get some really good speed, don't blow it from having too small of a prop, I'm sure you know that. keep the info/vids coming and be safe.

Dont ya just love the V8s! The sound alone makes me smile!:)
What is the compression on that thing?? Are you running it with the exhaust plat on or off?
I cant wait till my 3.6 comes out of hibernation. Ive got a few goodies for it this year:)
Im shooting for 90+ myself.

this might sound crazy- exhaust plate? what are we talking about here? i like my sh*t loud!!!!!! that v-8 sounds wicked!!!!! rob i would have to bet that your close to 95+!!!!:banana:let us know!

No exhaust plate now though I may try one once I'm ready to try for all out speed (I hear they add just enough backpressure to gain a few extra hp....not sure if it's true or not).

I'm not saying my Starflite will ever see this because I am not a good enough driver to even try it but it should break 100 fairly easily with the right setup. Kunkel radared 92 with a 3.6 (which I believe was mostly stock) so with an extra say 100hp it should have no problem finding an additional 10-15mph. I may be way off but this is my educated guess. I'll be happy with 85-90 and not blowing the thing to pieces.

That monster sounds wicked. Congrats.
Do you have the following.
Trim on the wheel?
Foot throttle?
Kill switch?
Dual cable or hyd steering?

HOOOLLLYY $hi+! Good job on landing one bad A$$ Johnnyrude! THAT'S what I'm talkin' bout!
Where did the previous owner say that thing should run RPM wise? You may have to go to some race style/pitch props to hold it down where it needs to be. I'm surpized you haven't already ripped the ears off that old raker. If you get a chance, try a new Raker II. They're available up to a 28". And they're really agressive too. Nothing like the old Rakers that slip and ventilate. The old Rakers only seem to do one thing well, and that's go fast in a straight line. An "out of the box" 26" Raker II runs more like everybody elses 28". Just a thought! And you might be able to get by with a stock prop rather than having to invest big bucks on a tweak job.
Good luck man..........and be careful out there!

Trim is on the side just in front of the throttle.

Hand throttle.

Yes, connected to me at all times.

Seastar dual hydraulic steering.

I'm running the V6 gearcase (less drag) so I'm working with a 1.86:1 ratio. I'm going to need at least a 29 14.5 if not bigger. Time to get in touch with Gary and try out a few props.

:thumb:Sounds great. did you say hand throttle? That would be the first thing id get rid of if your gonna push that thing that fast you need to be able to get out of it quick, if things get bad. I dont think id run a starflite over 80 with hand controls myself. I was at about at that limit myself. We want to here numbers not tragic storys be safe I imagine that will be a blast at that speed.

Rob good luck with that set up just 2 thinks to say get a FOOT PEDAL and wear a LIFEVEST:yell::yell::yell: at the speeds you'll be running things happen real fast. On my spectra with the v-8 runnin with a hot foot and both hands on the wheel. Do u have solid motor mounts? Another good investment you don't want that motor walkin around back there. Ok I said 3 thinks instead of 2. good luck and be safe.:thumb:
