jack plate install

Well-known member
okay 185 pulse br w 175 merc o/b prop shaft was 4.5" below pad originally im installin 6" cmc (thanks checkmaster ) so to start go for holes to line up close to that @ mid point on j/p ?

zstevens I can't help on height . I've got no first hand experience on that.
I bought a Pulse 185 that had a cmc jack plate on it.

The engine was as high on the plate as it would go.The engine was also set up with low water pickup. It had no water pressure gauge.According to the board that is a no no.

Keep in mind the engine is lower in the water the farther back it is set.

Hopefully more experience will be along.

Also once the plate is mounted do not tilt the engine without raising the jack plate as high as it will go.It will hit the motor well lip and mash your rigging.

Good Luck :thumb:

4.5" below pad is all the lower you'll ever need to be with the propshaft for all uses. With a big Pulse 185 and only 175 hp, you'll probably not realize any gain by raising the propshaft either. AND, you probably wont gain much if any speed by only going back 6". That's my experience anyway.

With a 2.5 motor, you really need 12"+ of setback to get any real gains in top end. The best gain for the BR boats is a tight bow cover.

disheartning ! damn! next question whats the trick to bleed pump or fill for that matter ? i dont have any experience w j/p either' . jw i saw a man 6" i see people stack em how much more beneficial would that be ? thanks 4 the quick response id like to get her wet asap n i was just messin w it this am after wk :brickwall: im exhausted bn up 4 22 hrs so answer is probaly obvious but im lost thanks zach

the further back the motor is, the more leverage you have with the trim, and the less the motor has to be trimmed to reduce the wetted surface

I thought 3.5" was as low as you would need to ever have a propshaft???
