Jack Plate Pulse 185

Slapshot

New member
I am getting ready to order a jack plate, and Kunkle's is going to do the install job when they get some free time. They stated a CMC manual is good, any other thoughts on brands or hydro/manual. Also running a 150 Eninrude FICHT, and wondering if I can expect at least 6-8 mph more.

if manual is all that funds allow. than be prepared to spend a lot time in between set ups lets say, speed runs to pullling skiers and back again. hyd lifts are the the way of the future. 6 to 8 mph might be a little optimistic lets say 3 to 5 mph. with a 150hp. and don't forget the water pressure issues.

A water pressure guage is a must! A temp guage is also good insurance. Power heads are mega $$$$$$$$$ to replace(I know from experience).

pulse185 i know you replaced a powerhead recently. did you have insurance on your outfit. if you did they sould of coverd your powerhead. i've had 2 replaced the past 10 years at $8,000 apeice complemts of the ins. company.

I installed my pressure gauge already. Now, my engine is set at the lowest of the four holes, so I think it's dragging the gearcase a lot. Is CMC a good choice?

i have an cnc 10 in set back braket and a cnc hyd. lift. both work fine and are attractive. the lift might be slower than other models. but i think that price range their on the lower end.and the lift is a self contained unit the power unit is located on the lift itself. olny the wiring is neeeded to install.

Merc245: What was the cause of your failure, mine was a pre-existing condition from the previous owner. My insurance co. paid for a power head about 10 years ago on a different boat, but I didnt even ask this time because of the circumstances

pulse 185, the first time was the first summer i owned the boat, its 3rd. it was my fault had it trimed way up.showing off and couldn't hear the alarm. smoked! i was panic stickened. but my machanic said he would turn it in as a ice bag plug the intakes and see what happens.next day the adjuster shows up believes the mechanic and orders a new powerhead. apx.$7500 six days later the powerhead is on and ready to go. i'm still waiting on the check. On the second occaision it was 4 yrs later i had just run that motor to death in those years. i had just 2 speeds idol or balls to the wall. i knew the engine was tired but had a lake cumberland trip planed and sure enough it blew there. after a month not knowing what to do!!! this where i get creative, first i remove all signs of the ext.bracket and hyd. lift and mount the engine to the transom. WHAT ME RACE IT, I ONLY SKI BEHIND WHEN I DO USE IT. then secondly i knew that the tell tail signs of a water intake problem was a smoked impeller. so with the adjuster coming by in the morning it was time to get busy. droped the lower unit disconnected the water impeller and the cup it rode in. seen the the shaft was the size of a broom handle cut me apeace of handle filed the keyway to fit the impellers keyway. put a screw in the other end and cut the head off the screw and attached my 1/2 drill and ran it dry for apx.20 minutes till the impeller was good and burnt with peices of rubber in the cup. reassembled everything at 1:30 am amd hope for the best. next morning the adjuster showed up. the story was that i was sking and my cousin was driving and after i fell he found the weeds and he was one the to blew it up. and the first thing he said was lets drop the lower unit. did that and opened the impeller cup and he looked in. and his exact words was LOOKS LIKE I'M BUYING YOU A NEW POWERHEAD. he cut the check on the spot for $8000 again 10 days later i was on the water. ( you know this all fiction, right)

pulse 185 (heres more fiction) when the adjuster shows up. i look out the window and its the same adjuster who totaled my 89 sportfire 7yrs earlier. i thought the gig was up. the first thing he says to me walking up the drive was "didn't you have a blue boat you wrecked some years back. i told him yea' i thought i reconized you too! ( i sure hope he's retired by now.)

I think I did ok on my deal, I got the preious owner to pony up half the cost, that was better than nothing!
