Looking at a 1987 Diplomat 3.0 I/O

85Predictor

Member
Have not been on the forum for a few years. Do not have the predictor anymore. :(
Anyway, are there any specific areas to check on this '87?
There may be a "soft" spot on floor. (Replaced the floor in the predictor)
I have never had an I/O so am concerned about areas around the motor/transom to check. Thanks! Hope to be back as an active member!

Agreed. And I should know,My last boat was an 87 dip 3.0 I/O. She was a georgeous root beer and gold flake w/ brand new interior. She sure was mighty pretty and a head turner but way underpowered. I considered repowering but decided the cost was to high. My top speed was about 40 or so.

Usually have a lot less problems at the transom on an I/O than an O/B. But, like was said 40 mph is about it.

Does the 3.0 have a single center stringer?

I agree with everyone, my 85 Dip has the 4.3 and it's perfect. I couldn't imagine it without it. Take it for a spin, but if your not in a hurry wait for a 4.3.
