Looking for Mate dealer in Canada or western US

New member
Hey everyone,

I'm new here, located in Vancouver BC and currently looking to buy myself a toy to compensate for all the hours I have put in at work lately - a new or good used Checkmate...

My problem is that I don't see many Mates out here - if I ever have I don't know. I would like to find a dealer so that they might be able to point me in the right direction because this will be my first boat. (I had a Sea Ray when I was a young kid)

I'm looking for something in the 16'-21' range with a price range of about $19000 cdn ($16000 us) max. I would be willing to travel to view the boat and ship back home but it would have to be a reasonable distance - maybe as far south as mid California and east to Ontario?

Also, what level of Checkmate could I get for $16000 us? I don't want a project boat.

Thanks.

Andy

Andy ,there is not one in Westeren Canada.there is one in Tacoma but hard to find used ones. I had to go south to get mine ,came out of Idaho originally. Ill keep you in mind as I am thinking about listing mine(see pictures under bostoncan)

I'm in Winnipeg and my Father bought a 2005 Pulsare 1850 from Dave in Fargo. 3.5 hrs south of Winnipeg. You will not find a better person to deal with.

Thanks guys,

I plan to get serious about buying in Feb but thats not to say I am not open to a great deal before that time. I will definately contact the Fargo and Lake & Trail Checkmate dealerships before I make any purchase decisions.

Dave, are you aware of the Canadian/US boarder issues when importing a boat? What kind of taxes will need to be paid and inspections made before the boat can be legally registered in Canada? Lastly, I notice you ship your new boats anyware in the US...does that go for your used units aswell and if not, how much to ship to say Seattle? Thanks.

Andy

Bostoncan,

I checked out your boat photos in another thread. WOW....VERY nice!!! I think the ladies in Penticton on August long weekend would love that ride (hope my girl friend doesn't see this! :P) Anyways, I will private message you a couple questions I have for you. Thanks...

Andy

Andy,

When you import a boat to Canada you need a bill of sale that breaks down the trailer seperate from the boat and motor for sure. The trailer is subject to a $180 fee for the Registrar of Imported Vehicles. The boat and motor are subject to PST & GST if imported at a Manitoba border crossing. (GST always, I'm told PST assessment varies by province)The trailer must have a 17 digit serial number etc. Motors made in the US no duty. I'm not sure about yamaha stuff. (Japanese) You can call customs if you wish, I would, the rules seem to change slightly over the years.

Used Checkmate's in general, especially those in excellent condition, are hard to find. We looked for a year before my father decided to buy new as he couldn't find anything. If that 96 - 185 that Dave has listed was available he'd have bought it in a second. That is a goooooood price.

Fly to Winnipeg, rent a car and drive down and see it. What a great way to kill a weekend.

I think Dave offers free delivery on new or used boats he sells, along with a warranty!!
I think he delivered one to Washington state this past summer.

Thanks guys....

I'm at the point now where I am trying to talk myself out of buying something sooner than I originally expected. Its Checkmate or nothing for me!

Andy

I saw your post concerning the Starliner in Washington. Try PMing the guy. They are great boat and very hard to find, and that one is in your backyard. And with a Yamaha....giddy up!
