Maxxum 229

PredictThis

Member
This past weekend a buddy of mine was looking to get rid of a boat for free. I told him I'd take it. Its a 1991 Maxxum 229. Overall the hull and transom are solid. There is one spot where I have to replace some flooring. The bad part is he pulled the engine and bravo 1 from it. The gel coat is pretty rough, no back seat, and the front seats need to be redone. It's the boat I want, but I'm unsure if I want to invest time and money into it. I also don't know how much I'll need to get it done. I'll post some pics later when I get home.

If i end up keeping this boat, my thoughts on a power plant will be a 6.0 LS1 N/A to get it going. Then if things go well, maybe twin 62mm turbos. But baby steps first. I already have a Turbo LS in my chevelle, so I know what I'd be getting myself into in that aspect.

I can get a denali with a 6.0 for $1500 and most likely get a free engine parting it out. The bravo drive, interior, and small parts is what I'm looking at to have to spend money on. What do you guys think I can get this boat in the water for?

Well, I think I'm going to keep it and slowly aquire the parts I need and spend money I don't have to restore her. I started wets sanding the lower hull. My thought is to paint the lower stripes orange and charcoal and paint the top orange, black, and charcoal. Then have the interior done kind of like the pic.
